Oh America is still recognizable...as it was over 1000 years ago when it was made up of numerous tribes. Us verses them verses them verses them and so on. You don’t look like us...evil. You are too tall for our tribe...evil. You don’t think like us...evil...and so. You get the idea.
Look at some of the terms used here in posts. Troll, noob, traitor, commie, satan worshiper, and on. We divide ourselves by how we perceive ourselves and our views. If your views or mine are not identical then one of us must be evil, a commie, and so forth. You can’t remain in the tribe. So we further separate ourselves.
This has carried over into our daily civil discourse. And it is amplified by the speed of which information, good or bad,can be spread.
We no longer seem to have the ability as a society to discuss anything without it degenerating into a shouting match with threats against someone. And the more outlandish the claims the better it would seem.
So the author of this article is right. We have allowed our system to degrade to the point that it seems we no longer can trust it to do the right thing for everybody. People have become so set in their positions on issues that no amount of proof or evidence to the contrary to those positions will change their minds. Compromise has become a dirty word. Yet we all compromise in our lives everyday.
If anything ever leads to the downfall of this country it will be because we will have separated ourselves into tribes again that we will no longer be the United States of America.
I will be long dead by the time that may or maynot happen. But our progeny will be the one’s suffering because we started down this road.
You hit the very reason that conservatives will never be able to turn the country back around. They can’t work together. In fact, they are openly hostile toward each other most of the time.
