Who's behind Ron DeSantis, then?
FR ^ | March 3 | RF

Posted on 03/02/2023 11:51:39 PM PST by RandFan

I have some genuine questions and I have no malice against Ron DeSantis or his supporters but a few things trouble me about him!

He has the tacit support of the Bushes.

I know they want anyone but Trump but as one Freeper put it: Will he blow kisses back?

What does having their support mean? Does it mean Karl Rove becomes an advisor? Campaign cash, staff and what not?

Think about it.

It's not just some throw away endorsement by them it comes with serious muscle, donors, etc.

He's also visiting Texas instead of CPAC.

Will he be hanging out with Ron Paul or the Bush clan?

This will be telling to me.

I notice Fox and Murdoch are also pushing him heavily.

Again, anyone but Trump is the cry but that also comes with serious muscle and TV/media coverage.

Will DeSantis sell his soul for all this and to try and be president and if he succeeded with all these connections just WHAT kind of president will he be?

THIS is what I'm thinking and what worries me.

I much prefer Trump the disruptor. Tried and tested and you know what you're getting.

Whether you like him or not Ron is much more of a conventional politician.

Just some thoughts, FRiends...

I’m with you on this. Talk is cheap Florida ain’t the WH. Power goes up exponentially. I think we should tread softly. IMO

Who did DeSantis hang out with when he was in Congress?

Great point and he seems to be following the Bush/governor model when running for president

“I did this, that and this” in Texas (or Florida in Ron’s case).

So what?

I don’t doubt he has many accomplishments but it means nothing to me.

Just don’t be fooled again by the slick talk.

It is simply too early to tell and right now the media and everyone really are looking more for gotchas instead of meaningful signs of support or endorsement. Plus, many of the people getting mentioned right now are doing this to simply get into the news, be relevant, even if for only a minute or two. Some might be doing so with ill intent.

I find it interesting that every time a ‘shady character’ (whether really ‘shady’ or not) got near Trump, everyone, particularly the Media, DEMANDED that Trump denounce the person.

...but not a whisper from the media regarding DeSantis, even with people like Rove, Jeb, and Soros (I think) supporting him.

Besides, do we really care about who any Bush, Rove, Soros, Ryan, Romney, and others like? Might as well ask Putin, Xi, Trudeau, Waters, Pelosi, Schumer. Hey, who does Lightfoot like? Maybe Oprah could share her thoughts.

It depends...

I’m perhaps speaking too early as you said.

But it might mean Rove and the plethora of Bush League Republicans become part of his campaign and - if he succeeds - a future administration

Is that what we want? How will it be any different ?

With Trump you know what you’re getting and he means it. Also, I like how he came out in that video the other day and said he would clean house.

If Ron made a video like that then I’d be impressed instead all he goes on about is what he’s managed to do in Florida (great but so what?).

A couple weeks ago, I read that Karl Rove was an unpaid advisor to the DeSantis campaign.

When you are running against a popular ex-President in your first primary campaign, trying to make new GOP friends is not necessarily a mistake.

If Rove and Lindsey Graham are still hanging around DeSantis after three or four primaries, then I will start to worry.

He seems to have the support of many MAGA Floridians. They’re pleased with his tenure.

Answer:

Mrs. DeSantis.

I need to know more about her. She clearly has significant say in what happens regarding the Gov.

Impressive record and success but it doesn’t mean anything.

He’s running on it like Bush did: “I’ve done this in Texas/Florida, etc”.

I dont’ care!

What’s his foreign policy? What’s his plan for the deficit?

Notice he’s quiet on this.

Trump on the other hand is much more authentic I think...

Tread carefully.

Soros has never said that he supports DeSantis. Why keep repeating the lie? It’s easy enough to look up.

“Soros has never said that he supports DeSantis. Why keep repeating the lie? It’s easy enough to look up.”

Compared to what he said about Trump, I’d call it an endorsement, although I agree it can be parsed differently.

He did say “I think”...

As I said in my post when he goes to Texas it will be telling who he hangs out with,

Ron Paul or Bushes and their donor base?

I think I know the answer which is a worry.

Here’s how I look at it:

DeSantis losing badly in Gov race, more than 20 points down and time running out.

DeSantis very much needs Trump’s endorsement and asks him for it.

Trump gives DeSantis the endorsement he so much needed and DeSantis runs very pro-Trump ads (very cute ones, with MAGA hat, helping his son “build that wall”, baby in MAGA onesie) and rides to victory BECAUSE OF TRUMP.

DeSantis does a great job as Gov, tackling all of the red meat issues to cement him with MAGA base.

Establishment RINOS need a candidate to back, because it simply cannot be that badass Trump, as their swamp activities must be protected. Who better than DeSantis?

DeSantis gets courted by the Establishment and his drive and political ambition seem to be getting the better of him. The fact that he would turn around and primary the very person who got him where he is, to me, shows his true colors and displays a disgusting lack of character and honor.

DeSantis could easily wait until 2028. He’s a young man and should complete his Gov time. This would also show some respect and loyalty to the man who got him where he is. This would also not throw chaos into the MAGA base.

DeSantis, if he was the nominee would lose. Many, many people in the MAGA base would be disgusted enough with his selfish political ambition and for backstabbing Trump that they’d stay home.

Just my opinion. I loved DeSantis until I learned he might pull such a stunt on Trump. The backing of Paul Ryan, the Bush clan, the globalist financing and the FOX love affair....it’s all just confirmation of what’s going on.

My hope (although doubtful) is that this is all theater and that Trump will pick DeSantis as his VP. They’d be unstoppable.

Yes, I know it’w Wikipedia, but sometimes they actually list facts and the sources, so if you want to know more about DeSantis’ policies from his legislative days and onward, they are listed at the link. There are other sites on the ‘net, but I have a Saturday deadline to deal with.

I didn’t know that he’d signed into law that students going into high school have to take a financial literacy test or that he’d signed a bill mandating that students had to be taught at least 45 minutes about communism and the infamous communist leaders on Victims of Communism Day, aka, the traditional Soviet October Revolution Day which, used to be commemorated on November 7 up until 1990.

Of course you don’t care about DeSantis’ track record because he is the only true conservative with a chance at being POTUS.

Trump is not a conservative.

Conservatives trust actions and DeSantis has earned our trust.

Trying to dismiss years of conservative actions does nothing to help our cause.

You like to mention Trump helping DeSantis in 2018, but fail to mention DeSantis helping Trump carry Florida in 2016 and 2020.

Discounting that is dishonest.

DeSantis repaid Trump’s support and then gets attacked by Trump for no reason other than Trump’s thirst for power.

Sorry, but Trump looks small attacking the true conservative who never attacked Trump first.
