If remaining legally married to one’s spouse puts one at severe risk of harm, divorce is not forbidden. If the legal, physical and temporal separation divorce produces would serve one day to set the table for eventual reconciliation and reunion, it might be the single best course of action, right now. Meaning that, under such conditions, not lightly arrived at but after much prayer and hard consideration, your diocese, your local ordinary, even your metropolitan could and should endorse your decision.
