A very rare whale was spotted in the Monterey Bay Sunday morning.
According to Monterey Bay Whale Watch, the critically endangered North Pacific right whale (Eubalaena japonica) was spotted during a whale-watching trip this morning.
Captain Pualani Dalton on the Point Sur Clipper was the one who spotted it and Evan Brodsky with Monterey Bay Whale Watch said it is "One of the rarest whales in the world, estimated only 32 individuals along the Pacific coast."
He said those on the boat could tell it was a North Pacific Right Whale due to the raised patches of rough skin called callosities which you can see on its head, over its eyes, behind its blowhole and around its mouth.
This whale was also identified by its V-shaped blowhole and unique pectoral fins.

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration North Pacific right whales have been listed as endangered under the Endangered Species Act since 1970.
There are likely fewer than 500 North Pacific right whales remaining, and most sightings have been of single whales.
The photographs of this whale spotted in the Monterey Bay were taken by Dane McDermot and Daniel Bianchetta.
Excellent.
There ya go, ANOTHER animal suffering from Climate Change! /s
As a Right Whale, it probably doesn’t believe in Climate Change.
Delicious.
The 1999 graph shows the 1930's were hottest. The 2019 version has been altered to hide the fact that temperatures were hotter when CO2 was lower.
Even Brandon and John Kerry would see a problem with that.
I know reasonably intelligent people who know what the CO2 concentration is today but these knuckleheads can't comprehend that the gubermint hacks are forging the data.==== realclimatescience.com
