Just watched him again in “Glengarry, Glen Ross” the way he tears down Kevin Spacey’s character is an all-time classic.
Also great in another of my favorite movies, The Devil’s Advocate.
I saw him perform Jack Lennon’s role of Shelly Levine on Broadway as by that time Al was too old to play Ricky Roma (Bobby Cannavale played Ricky in the performance I saw). Great play but the movie is helped by the addition of the character of Blake who is not in the play.
All the actors in Glengarry Glen Ross were perfect in their roles. Back in the 90’s, I worked in a sales department. Our sales manager had a sense of humor. While we called lead after lead, he would walk around telling us, “Always be closing.” One day, he told me to watch that movie. What a classic.
I didn’t really like “Glengarry, Glen Ross”, maybe because I don’t know much about the sales culture.
But I thought all of the actors were great.
I’ll have to look for ‘Devil’s Advocate’.
I need to add to my previous comment.
It struck me after I posted, that ‘Glengarry, Glen Ross’ was the first movie I’d ever seen with no females in it at all.
But there’s another one: the 1997 version of ‘12 Angry Men’.
No females, except at the very beginning, where the female judge is giving jury instructions.
Great actors all around.
(Sort of a spoiler: George C. Scott is the ANGRIEST man, and gives a fabulous performance.)
