Sounds like he just Empedocles himself for a lawsuit. They paid him for his work. The company owned the product. He destroyed the product. He owes them for said destroyed product.

Sounds like he just Empedocles himself for a lawsuit.Well, Empedocles believed that the two main forces in life were Love and Strife, so I guess the man had so little Love that he created enough Strife to get sued.
Unless the man was just Empeding the company from doing its work.

Yup. All work done for a company belongs to the company, unless otherwise specified.

He owes them for said destroyed product.Depends on the product, and whether the company had a "work for hire" clause in the employee's contract. The law on ownership of creative products like software favors the creator.
