I think what is going on is that the men the women married were not men they were attracted to. They were stable income providers, mostly.
Many women have a dichotomy about men. There are men they want to have sex with, but they would not marry them because they don’t trust them or the man in question only viewed them as a sexual conquest. These men can expect these women to do everything with them and to be always available to them.
Then there are the men the women do not find attractive, but were considered useful to the women. Since these men aren’t attractive to the women, the women eventually start to look for sexual opportunities elsewhere.
Some people with hormone problems can’t be satisfied with one. For example, men who inject testosterone. Sometimes they want to and reduce the dose.
