The short answer to all of this , is that we are told we need to be tolerant of everyone regardless of their behavior or professed views on any subject.
And that then matches up with the media and activists telling any who opposed that you are homophobic transphobic Etc.
So , between being urged to be tolerant of people different than yourself, and being told that only bigoted people would oppose tolerating all this LGBT, combined with people wanting to avoid being labeled as intolerant, you have a situation where most people are afraid to say anything about all this LGBT business.
