This is right at 50 ACRES under roof. 2.1 million square feet.

The spread is attributed to the cross flow ventilation of the barn driven by fans.

Right. It is a steel and concrete facility with feed bunkers of usually damp feed material. I guess it was straw that made all that black smoke of course. yup.

This is a strange.

Manure pit
Typically, the mixture is composed of about 60 percent methane and 40 percent carbon dioxide regardless of the type of waste. Pure methane has heat value of about 1,000 Btu per cubic foot, so we can expect the methane-carbon dioxide mixture to have a heat value of about 600 Btu per cubic foot.

This was clearly an accident.

That is what the media says.
We should believe them.

We trusted them during Covid.
We trusted them for the solution to Covid.
We trusted them with Jan 6th.

We must also trust them here.../s

LOTs of methane around dairies. Cow poop.

There have been many attempts to take advantage of cow manure using anaerobic digestion to produce methane. At small scale it can be done sort of economically but at industrial scale it's a nightmare.

The best thing IMHO is to haul liquefied manure in tankers to spread on fields as a terrific fertilizer. I'll bet there are a lot of happy cotton farmers with irrigated fields in that county. Bigger yields and faster growing.

The state fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
Dimmitt is in Castro County and is roughly halfway between Lubbock and Amarillo, west of Tulia.
A facility that large and with so many dairy cattle is probably a member of a dairy co-operative.
Expect a regional shortage of dairy products in the Castro County and surrounding areas.

There might have been a dairy methane digester responsible for this. Time will tell.

It' s a dairy farm for cripes sake.

I'm going with arson. But I'm a cynic.
