While weight loss may precede a cancer diagnosis, the study revealed that weight loss also precedes increased mortality from all causes, including deaths from cardiovascular disease, trauma, dementia, Parkinson's disease, and other less common causes.

A failure to differentiate between those who lost weight due to a good diet and exercise versus those who lost weight due to illness (known or unknown) renders this study useless.

The conclusions of this study are about as important as saying that people with cancer have higher death rates than people without it.
