Home Depot worker, 26, is shot and killed trying to stop shoplifting couple from stealing phone charger: Suspects fled the scene with two-year-old child in car

A Home Depot employee in California was shot and killed outside his store while trying to stop an alleged thief and her boyfriend, who fled with a two-year-old child in their car.

Blake Mohs, 26, was fatally wounded during a struggle which took place after he spotted the pair trying to leave in Pleasanton, east of San Francisco, on Tuesday.

The district is a Democrat enclave, and Home Depot has long been targeted by thieves. In 2019, the retailer began paying police overtime in Oakland - at least $2.1 million by 2021 - to guard its store.

Benicia Knapps, 32, and David Guillory, 31, were later arrested on suspicion of murder, robbery, child endangerment and conspiracy, according to police.

Knapps, a licensed security guard with a criminal history, had attempted to steal a phone charger, according to witnesses.

Police responded to calls at about 2.15pm of a man bleeding inside the store and rendered aid to the victim before he was rushed to a nearby hospital.

The Alameda County Coroner later confirmed the victim died, and Home Depot confirmed he was an employee.

'We're heartbroken over this senseless tragedy. Blake was our associate and friend, and our hearts go out to his family and everyone who knew and loved him,' the retailer said in a statement.

The Alameda County Sheriff's Office quickly located the suspects' vehicle and detained them about 2.30pm in Oakland before a handgun was found at a nearby intersection.

Mohs was reportedly a Boy Scout leader who was engaged to be married to fiancée Kasey Silligman.

Pleasanton police Lt. Erik Silacci said Knapps had been attempting to steal an electrical item and was 'determined to exit without paying.'

Mohs confronted her and a 'physical confrontation ensues.'

I don’t believe this story for a second.

there is no way “security” is going to shoot anyone over a $2 item.

I don’t know what the real story is, only this is not it.

What a senseless loss of life.
This is a direct result of the politicization of crime & punishment. The anarchy fostered by leftists is destabilizing our society. America needs a reset of law and order.

Lived in that area for a few years, it’s very nice. Upscale, and generally safe. Unfortunately, it’s very close to Oakland. Plenty of crime spills over from that hellhole. Not sure if that’s what happened in this situation.

No blacks working security? I can see why. Where’s the backup? These guys are on their own when there’s only one of them. You think the store manager will help? Will his corporate bosses back him up? Think again.

Security guard didn’t shoot anyone.

“Pleasanton police Lt. Erik Silacci said Knapps had been attempting to steal an electrical item and was ‘determined to exit without paying.’Mohs confronted her and a ‘physical confrontation ensues.’Silacci said Knapps then pulled out a handgun and fired what would be fatal shots at Mohs.”

I understand, but Security guard undoubtedly had many training sessions about not chasing for stealing stupid little stuff.

He either knew and/or recognized them, or they dissed him in some way that required he follow them.

The thief was a licensed security guard. The Home Depot employee that was murdered wasn't a security guard.

The female thief was the one who murdered the Home Depot employee. She had worked as a security guard in the past. The "security guard" is the criminal in this case.

She’ll do time but not enough. If I was the victims kin I’d know when she got out.
It’s not copy cat stuff. It’s like a beer coming to a head. No Rudy Guiliani’s out there. Unprotected borders are a planned distraction.

I’ll say it. We have a open race war ongoing.

As others have said...we don’t have a race problem...we have a problem race

Sadly, it looks that way, and the problem race has no respect whatsoever for human life.

I have to agree with Scott Adams. The best course of action is to avoid the problem race whenever possible.

And, yes, I will cross the street to the other side if I see black “teens” approaching me.

I apologize to my dear black friends and relatives, it wasn’t always like this.

We should not have to live in fear of one another.

God help us all.

Hate crime.

Oh of course they will say it was a robbery gone bad and they only shot him because he tried to interfere. Yet we really can’t say that for sure, maybe if a black guard would have tried to stop him he would not have been shot.

My point is the law is only applied in one direction…in nearly all cases. Just eliminate the damned law and apply equal Justice fairly…on the action not the intent.

Worked part time at a Home Depot for a year. Loss Prevention training was more than clear and pounded into every employee. NEVER try to stop thieves physically. Radio for a manager, ask to see a receipt, and if they walk out get car description and plate number. Sickening that it’s like that, but those are the rules.

Before it became too dangerous, it was fun to chase these creeps. I worked at a very busy supermarket on the San Francisco peninsula. Even if the perps were faster in a shorter sprint, I used to run the 440 (quarter mile) race. On the track, when you run all out, after about 330 yards your legs, and especially your thighs, begin to feel like lead weights. During the last 50 yards the best method is to make the major effort to lift each thigh as high as possible, thereby not losing more time to the insane fatigue in the legs.

When chasing the perps, they might believe they are ‘getting away’ if, at first, they are not caught by their pursuers. What really surprised, and pissed them off, was that I kept running after them until they tired. Most of the time they would drop whatever they had stolen. If they ever drew a knife, well, they were in no shape to catch me, and did not chase. Fortunately, I left the supermarket position before the perps started carrying firearms.

“The district is a Democrat enclave...”

I’d be curious as to how the dead guy voted in the last Presidential election...and how he’ll vote in future elections.
