We privatized our street once. It was subsequently gated and self sustaining. No schools assigned. No police. No trash collision. No snow plowing. Only electric, gas, and water stayed with the utility companies (right of way is on the deeds). That was my best living experience ever. The property taxes stayed the same, but we cherished the privacy. The county Sheriff had to call one of the residents thru his dispatcher if they needed to ASK for entry.
If you have a street that naturally isolates itself, like up against a state park of near meadows, I highly suggest it. We did keep a law firm on retainer on any and all matters. The same law firm who had two partners on our private gated street. It does somewhat limit resale base of buyers however. It appeals to folks who think different.
