Oh, I agree. Your approach, however, is a non-starter. Going on a political site like FR and saying: "Don't talk about this topic that all the political pundits are talking about" will not make anyone pay heed.

What does work, however, is making unequivocal statements and declaring the topic to be low-brow and mundane. For example:

"Those pushing the Trans garbage are either evil or have serious mental illnesses. Anyone listening to them or agreeing with them of necessity falls into the same camp. Also, I am sick and tired of talking about this nonsense. It's boring."
