One thing that keeps getting lost in this debate is that electrical equipment, especially motors, create static in the AM band and I believe the manufacturers are having trouble trying to filter it enough on the radios and so the easiest solution is to just ditch the AM radio.

Take your AM radio and hold it close to the HVAC fan when it’s running and see what they are dealing with.

I listen to a lot of things that are broadcast on the radio but I listen later to the podcast.

I’m not sure any of my vehicle radios is tuned in to ANY radio preset

I listen to Mark Davis on KSKY on my morning commute. Why? I don’t know.

He’s actually on the air 10-12 minutes out of every half hour. The rest is commercials with an occasional traffic update.

The rest of the time is top of the hour news on Fox, then over to The Fan, I can’t stand these mental midgets for more than 90 seconds.

I’m seriously glad to arrive at work.

Take a transistor radio and set it next to a powerful electric motor. Try your fridge or AC unit.

I’ll wait.

The amount of shielding required to make an AM radio useable in an electric car adds pounds to the car.

This isn’t a conspiracy theory. It’s an efficiency issue. You can listen to preachers through your phone plugged into your car.

People presenting this as a political issue don’t understand how radios or electric motors work.

That has been the model for at least 50 years. My wife was a radio news person when I met her.

I took my FCC exams for First Class Radiotelephone/Ship's RADAR Endorsement at the San Diego FCC office. The fishing fleet had all the boats in port in the Fall. I did the repairs on the boats and base stations, then scheduled an appointment with the local FCC engineer to do the annual safety inspection on the boat prior to the start of the new fishing season in January. I had pretty good rapport with all of the local engineers and FCC admin staff. It was a professional relationship and I ensured all the work was done to a high standard. I would be extremely embarrassed to be the station engineer for my local Fox affiliate. BTW, it's an FM station. The AM transmitter in the Pocatello area was removed.

I recently learned that the FCC had extended emission types for CB radio to include FM. Cool. I went in search of a new CB with FM capability and discovered another interesting "feature". The radio I purchased operates on 12 or 24 volts. It seems there is a move afoot to move to 24 volt systems in vehicles. I bought one that is dual capable. The CB world doesn't have a "band plan" similar to the ARRL approach for ham bands, so there is no recommended discipline for AM, USB, LSB, FM emissions on specific "channels". The 40 channel layout remains. My 10 meter ham gear supports AM, FM, USB, LSB, CW and data emissions. Over the last week I have enjoyed FT8 contacts on 20 meters. My first was to a station in Japan last week. 14.074 MHz. Data on HF sounds very different from the AFSK packet I ran on 2 meters in the mid-80s.

“sell off the AM spectrum to their cell companies “

Not enough spectrum there. That was really the original space used to communicate in. Long waves and not usable in small devices.

Totally agree. I don’t turn it on anymore. I relish the silence and I miss Rush.

We’ve lost 5 elections in a row, so obviously AM talk radio does not hold the power that it once did in its heyday, 3 decades ago.

And what sense does this make? It isn't "as" influential so we should just allow the Left and the corporate cabal to just shadow ban it completely?
