From your link:

“Maslov was suspected of transferring data related to hypersonic technologies to China.”

Not Ukraine (or the CIA).

—” launching cruise missiles into Soviet era apartment buildings in Kiev. Their intellect is deep.”

Shoigu does not have much of a mil-spec background, Gerasimov is much better.
But they are not stupid and have to adapt and improvise with what they have on Putin’s orders; OR ELSE!

Sadly they just follow orders to continue breathing.

They have to charge them with something to place in the news.

There are two possible easy explanations:

Patriot is more capable than we thought, or

Kinzhal is less capable than claimed.

Maybe it is a bit of both.

Or third this is propaganda. Something the Ukrainians are good at. And the western press buys it without question.

Don’t see your name there...

(don’t know your name, either, for that matter)

“The propaganda is getting increasingly desperate in maintaining the hype over overpriced dusfunctional stuff, but the truth comes out over time.”

The difference is that, even though it took the Russians a while to figure it out, they did understand that they were going to have to fight the West at some point, given the psychos that the West was electing. The West, meanwhile, never thought they’d have to fight the Russians, or any other strong country.

So, that meant that weapons in the West didn’t have to actually work in combat, but rather only had to appear capable of working in combat. For Russia, knowing they were going to used in combat, they had no choice but to make sure they worked...or it would cost lives.

People like myself could see this coming regarding the weaponry of the West as much of it was reported in the media publications. But the people running the West, who are basically a bunch of Art Majors, simply had no interest in understanding our weaknesses...and so now we pay the price.

Another possibility is launch pilot error.

The Kinzhal is supposed to be able to maneuver while enroute to the target.

To do this, the launch pilot would have to input interim waypoints into the Kinzhal.

This would complicate the Patriot’s ability to predict where the Kinzhal is flying to.

If the pilot only imputs the target’s GPS coordinates, it would not maneuver while enroute to the target.

The Patriot would easily calculate the flight path of the Kinzhal and launch a PAC-3 missile to intercept it.

“#4 Could be the quality of their education system far surpasses ours and they can still do things with pencils and sliderules that we can’t do without computers and endless VR simulations.”

Anyone who home schools is familiar with Russian math, and it’s not because they want to dumb-down their kids.

As to what you wrote about, replace “without”, with “with”, and I’ll agree, as it’s pretty much what DEI is now bringing our Defense Contractors.

I was a Patriot Army Officer. In my day, we were surprised at how well the missile did vs Scuds. Now this. It is an amazing system.

Thank you.
Clearly not a position for everyone.

We all know the low-bidder line but some equipment far exceeds the design specifications. It happens even with government contracts.

If you have the time could you give your opinion on the Patriot video and the team that operates it?

A detailed talk on the Patriot system. The speaker is a former US Army E-7, 20 min.

Dubious. I recall around 1998 the Defense Department made everyone at Raytheon take ethics training because some jerk at Beech (a Raytheon subsidiary at the time) had used Chinese parts in a training plane manufactured by Beech. Burned me that a government controlled by William J. Clinton was making me, a survivor of 12 years of Catholic schooling, take ethics training.

The Patriot Engagement Controller (semi trailer loaded with electronics and two officers that interfaces between the ground radar and firing units) incorporated Chinese made LCD numeric displays because China was the only country making them. That required a life-time buy of spares at initial acquisition.

I also worked on the Taiwanese Surveillance Radar System, the world’s largest and most powerful UHF radar (Muscled up version of PAVE PAWS.) It has something like 6,000 400 Watt power amps, and they go through a lot of high power transistors, needing regular replacement. The Taiwan Air Force, God bless and keep them, took over many maintenance tasks from Raytheon. Raytheon was doing a lot of this maintenance in country, with local suppliers performing routine tasks like replacing burned out transistors, but the TAF wanted to do it “in house”, with TAF personnel. They had trouble obtaining parts, and they have a strict no Chinese content policy. I wonder where the Raytheon contractors got their parts from?

Thank you.

—”I also worked on the Taiwanese Surveillance Radar System, the world’s largest and most powerful UHF radar “

Years back I spend a lot of time in Taiwan a beautiful county with friendly people and great food.

When you travel down the west coast highway there are many signs “NO PHOTOGRAPHS”. It is a honeycomb of caves, tunnels, and military/missile installations. I heard stories about people being caught taking photos and being expelled from the island by their Company Commander.
A big hit from a great duty station.

I was told that when out late at night one of any three Taiwanese you pass are government observers, not exactly police not spies. Simply reporting anything unusual.

Recall the North Korean kidnappings of the Japanese and Taiwanese. They have much to watch over.

Yes.

I was let go in early ‘89. Worked in a spook lab. Went to Groom Lake in ‘80 or ‘81 for a few weeks, then again in ’84-‘85.
