As long as critical infrastructure is disconnected from the Internet by an airgap and the powers that be don’t rely on AI for advice, we’ll be fine. But then, practically everything is connected to the Internet.

This article is 100% about big tech trying to freeze out any annoying startups that might challenge their profits.

But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.

Steven J. Hawking predicted AI squashing humanity by about 2050.

If it’s programmed by godless depopulationist climate-crazed Commies, AI is guaranteed to recommend human extinction.

I have good news and bad news.
The bad news is that humans are going extinct.
The good news is that climate change is no longer a problem.

It cannot BE sentient.
I am not worried.

So we have ONE MORE THING that will end us.
What's the current count? I've lost track.

All AI would need to wreak havoc would be the ability to send email and scan the Internet. By scanning the Internet it could “dig up dirt”, and by sending email it could extort humans to do its bidding.

Extinction seems improbable.
AI will most likely loose interest in humans and allow a significant number of breeding pairs to exist indefinitely in a more or less natural state in the tropics.
Human IQ has been rising by about 3 points per decade, while computers have gone from 0 to 100 in less than 50 years. At the current rate of increase for AI, humans will be to AI as animals are to humans within a few decades.
