I tend to give the workers at McDonald’s (and the like) a lot of leeway. They could be hanging out on a street corner, doing who knows what. But instead they are in working away in a hot room, trying to honestly earn a few dollars.

Sure, some of them are incompetent. And some of them just don’t care. No matter. I respect honest work, even if it is sometimes imperfect.

As a side note, I would not have said that back in the 1970s. But the work ethic has changed drastically since then. And so today I grade on a curve.

The one’s at the location I sometimes frequent are pleasant and respond very well to a customer who orders promptly, and acts in a friendly manner. I’m a firm believer in thanking folks who do their job right, costs me nothing and may improve their day.

I stopped at a drive through restaurant a few months ago. They had a sign taped to the window that said they have a very difficult time getting people to even apply for work, and please be patient with the crew because they are all new and don’t really know the ropes yet. If you give them flack, they will walk off the job and not come back.

Have a choice of two if I'm in the auto-pilot. The corporate-owned one uses AI to take orders, and it is flawless (albeit I never split a bill). The other one is non-corporate and has a sweet old woman (her name is "Dolly", no joke) who will talk you into a combo to "save money".

Fortunately her McDuck's is so non-busy she gets away with it. I never use McDuck's for anything but breakfast, but damn if the return of the steak egg and cheese bagel is perhaps the greatest fast-food breakfast ever created.

I’m with you, as unlike most here, I guess, I’ve gotten crappy service at least as often at sit-down restaurants as McDonald’s.

I’m like that too. The customers also changed. They can be so nasty and rude. A big entitlement out there thinking they are better then the worker.
