It is too early to tell if the Wagner forces are actually opposing Russian forces, in a bid to oust Russian commanders or President Putin.
Prigozhin reportedly was in St Petersburg around 7 pm Moscow time today.
It seems unlikely he would start this ball rolling without first gaining critical support from some element of the Russian elites in St Petersburg and Moscow.
The next leader of Russia will make Putin look like a pacifist.

Russian Defence Minister should have been tried, and Putin is being deceived – New criticism of Wagner Group’s head
Yevgeny Prigozhin, owner of the Russian Wagner Private Military Company (PMC), criticised Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu and the General Staff for the failure of hostilities, stating that Ukraine did not plan to attack Donbas in 2022, and said that the Russian officials wanted the war, and the oligarchs wanted to make money.

QUOTE: “After 2014, the entire Donbas was scattered and looted by various people. Some of them were from the presidential administration, some from the FSB, some oligarchs, such as Kurchenko [Serhii – ed.], were involved. These are people who stole money from the residents of Donbas, who were in the unrecognised republics of LPR [so-called Luhansk People’s Republic – ed.] and DNR [so-called Donetsk People’s Republic – ed.].”
DETAILS: Prigozhin said that Russian generals at that time were “squandering” money on the maintenance of the so-called military corps in these “republics”. Prigozhin also said that as of February 2022, Ukraine was not preparing an offensive on Donbas.

Now the Russian Defence Ministry is trying to deceive society, is trying to deceive the president and create a story that there was insane aggression on the part of Ukraine and they tried to attack us together with the entire NATO bloc.”
DETAILS: Prigozhin once again criticised the combat capability of the Russian army, which is not capable of conducting large-scale combat operations, and the generals “decorate themselves with medals like a Christmas tree.” He personally accused Shoigu of “killing thousands of Russian soldiers” in the first days of the war.

On 20 June, the UK Defence Intelligence reported that Prigozhin is trying to undermine the authority of the Russian Ministry of Defence, while the ministry considers his actions inappropriate against the background of Ukrainian counteroffensive operations.

The leader of the Wagner Group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, has said that the Russian regular army had launched a missile strike on the Wagnerites’ rear camps. Prigozhin has added that Russian Defence Minister Sergey Shoigu has now cowardly fled Rostov and “this creature will be stopped”. The Russian Ministry of Defence called this statement a provocation.

DETAIS: Prigozhin said that the attack was carried out by the Russian Armed Forces: “The information from the field suggests that the attack was carried out from the rear, i.e., by the [forces of the] Russian Defence Ministry. These scums carried out missile attacks on our rear camps. A large number of our fighters were killed. We will decide how to respond to this atrocity. The next step is up to us.”
According to the leader of the Wagnerites, “Those who struck the rear camps of the private military company will be punished”.

DETAILS: Prigozhin then claimed that Shoigu had personally arrived in Rostov to carry out an operation to wipe out the Wagnerites: “He used artillery and helicopters after dark to take us out.”
Meanwhile, the Russian MoD claims that all the messages and videos spread on social media on behalf of Prigozhin about “the Russian MoD striking the ‘rear camps’ of the Wagner Group” are untrue and are an information provocation.
The MoD of the aggressor country states that the Russian Armed Forces “continue to perform combat missions on the contact line against the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the area of the special military operation [as the Russian propaganda calls the war against Ukraine – ed.]”.
Nah, they’re redeploying and Moscow is trying to lure Ukraine back into attacking the Russian defensive lines.
I think they’re trying to get Ukraine to attack east instead of south until they fix that bridge to Crimea. Also, Russia’s line is all defensive. You don’t want the two lines to sit there until the July NATO conference. You want a huge Ukrainian loss or surrender.
I have a feeling Wagner is just disappearing south to shore up the southern line because there is a real danger there of Ukraine getting a small victory.
The local Rosgvardia forces in the Rostov region will be no match for Wagner PMC.
It would seem out of character for Prigozhin to start this without a plan thought out in advance.
Wagner and its commanders have demonstrated more competence than their regular Russian Army counterparts and reportedly the entire Wagner Council of Commanders voted for this move.
