Data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) show that incidence of a common stomach illness is on the rise on cruise ships.
In an update posted several days ago, the federal agency is now listing 13 outbreaks of norovirus on cruise ships this year, which is the highest number of outbreaks recorded on cruises since 2012. The most recent reported norovirus outbreak was on June 20 on a Viking Cruises ship in which about 120 passengers and crew members reported being ill out of about 1,200 people who were on board.
Viking Cruises recently told The Wall Street Journal that it believes the viral outbreak “originated from a shoreside restaurant in Iceland where a group of guests dined during their free time” rather than from someone on the ship.
There were only four norovirus outbreaks on cruise ships during all of 2022, even as demand for cruises surged after COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns.
Federal officials estimate that norovirus infects between 19 million and 21 million people each year on average.
Norovirus is one of the most common viral illnesses on cruises, and it has sometimes been dubbed “the cruise ship virus” owing to widespread media coverage of outbreaks. However, the CDC noted that outbreaks on cruise ships account for a small number of all reported outbreaks of norovirus in the United States.

I guess that traditional buried rotten fish was not so fresh.
I ate hakarl and chased it with Black Death.
Luckily I was already heavily intoxicated and alcohol killed the germs.
I wound up playing trivia with Icelandic lesbians in the Big Lebowski Bar…
Cruise ships have ALWAYS been known as floating petry dishes. Some are just better than others.
Alcohol should work, too, but I don't want to chance overdoing it and end up getting sick from that. Also, some places just don't have or serve alcohol. Spicy condiments are basically legal everywhere.
What do you expect when you’re in a giant Petrie dish?
Is this surprising. They would have to hose down the entire ship with bleach after each cruise to defeat virus outbreaks. Every nook and cranny would need to be sprayed.
After my husbands heart transplant, thirteen years ago, we were given things to NEVER do. A cruise was #1 on the list.
Whenever you see a cruise ship story remember this: the left hates cruise ships. They think they nothing but floating playgrounds for rich white people. Wrong as usual but that never stops them.
Our immune systems are shot. The clot shot was the final blow after years of “flu” shots. I’ve never had any of them. No flu shot, no clot shot, no shingles shot. None.
The complete isolation of everyone didn’t help immune systems either.
You do realize the most common source of noro is your children bringing it home from school. Are the schools also a giant petri dish?
BTW, noro is easily avoided if one frequently washes their hands.
Not surprising....most of these cruiser are boo$ted up, to the hilt.
Their immune systems are so compromised.
A cruise ship is the last place they should be - as they are KNOWN floating petri dishes. 😱
You do realize the most common source of noro is your children bringing it home from school. Are the schools also a giant petri dish?
It’s NOT schools who are having the surge....it’s the floating petri dish CRUISE ships.
Another $hill FAIL.
Builds immunity.
*remember this: the left hates cruise ships.*
They’re trying to put them out of business and buy the ships for pennies on the dollar. That way they can convert them into homeless shelters.
Not to mention all the serial killers that patrol the decks late at night to throw drunks overboard.
The pendulum swings, and then it swings back.
I'll bet that the number of recorded norovirus cases dropped when they were being mislabeled as COVID-19, and now those cases are being recorded as norovirus again, as well as the milder cases of COVID-19.
In the beginning, the government wanted the COVID-19 count to be high in order to assert control; today, the cruising industry doesn't want the COVID-19 count to be high in order to keep the customers coming back.

Duke, Duke, Duke, ANY parent knows schools are also perti dishes. Why are little kids sometimes called “little germikins?”
We parents know kids pass bugs around like crazy. One would expect that Adults working on cruise ships would be more responsible with sanitary issues and simple hand washing. Some cruise lines are simply better than others.
Best of all, there is an Horton's Health Urgent Care Clinic right by the dock, to take care of all the bugs I picked up on the voyage!
Quick lock everyone in the world, especially the USA until after November 2024.
