I have used a Linux desktop for about 20 years (previously Win98SE), but my wife uses Windows. I don’t object because Linux still doesn’t have a video editor anywhere near as good as Premiere Pro.

That being said, we have two file servers, a firewall/gateway, an internet video stream to TV (HDMI) driver, a small inter-LAN interface box, and a laptop (mainly used to drive another TV), all running various versions of Linux.

P.S. I don’t understand how people tolerate dual booting, since it implies booting. Windows, of course, is not known for its speedy startup, and I would have to spend a good 10 minutes just getting my Linux desktop machine reconnected to the other 5 to 7 machines I use remotely (via SSH and X Windows). So all our machines run 24/7, and we can pick up where we left off at any time.

I think maybe you are confused about what dual booting actually means. You choose to run one operating system or the other... you do not run both operating systems at the same time. If you have more than one operating system being used on the same computer at the same time, one of the operating systems is a virtual machine.

The only disadvantage is that you have to use a bit of extra hard drive space for the second operating system. Inexpensive SSDs are now being used as the primary drives in every computer that we have. Dual booting takes an extra 5 seconds or however much time you have given yourself to pick which operating system you want to use before the computer boots into which ever system you have it load by default.

If your operating system is taking more than a minute to load up... there are numerous possible causes. But most likely you are using a slow hard drive, you have an excessive amount of start-up apps or one of your startup apps is having some type of difficulty.

Have you tried Shotcut? Looks like it has potential.
