You would need to spend the rest of your life dodging scam artists. Long lost friends and family will suddenly try to contact you with their hard-luck stories. No matter how generous you are to your friends and family, it will never be enough, and they will talk behind your back about how "stingy" you are and how you've "changed" for the worse since your good fortune.
There is a fellow employee of mine who won a multi-million jackpot some years ago - it was $5 million scratch ticket. More like $2.5 million after taxes.
Believe it or not, he is still working with the company because he has his head on straight and used most of the money to pay off his house, setup trusts for the education of his children and nieces/nephews, etc. Other than a few splurges for himself, he banked the rest.
However, most of his family won't talk to him. It is as if they are enraged that he is being so sensible with his winnings. His fellow employees gave him grief for not quitting his job. He actually had to transfer out of state to get away from them (which made me his manager as he came to my area).
For years, I never once spoke to him about his jackpot. I figured it was his business and any mention of it on my part would make him think I had an angle.
About a year ago, he finally brought it up to me and said that he really appreciated the fact that I never once brought it up. Virtually everybody else he deals with is always asking him about it and it really annoys him because it is obvious that they either jealous or trying to get a piece of it out of him.
i have a cousin who is Obsessed with “how much” money his cousins from his dads side has.
He is convinced somehow that the $$ should be his.
His cousins are wealthy, but they also have worked for it.
My cousin is 75 but has been like this since he was 21.
We’re the “poor mice” side of the family so he leaves us alone. Believe me if he thought we had $$ he’d walk to my house from SC to ask for it.
He has googled everybodys address and looks up our home value.
I myself have zero problem saying no to anybody so i could win big and not give him anything.
