The commanding general of Eglin AFB at first refused access to Gaetz, Burchett, and Luna (after having been invited down to the base for this purpose). In fact, there was quite an argument (according to Burchett).

They had to call the House Armed Services Committee Chairman Mike Rogers, who in turn had to call the Secretary of the Air Force Frank Kendall III to finally intervene with a phone to the Eglin AFB general.

They got the access they sought.

The congressmen could have put the fear of God into these Air Force types by threatening to cut off funding to Elgin AFB.
