The Alabama woman who confessed to faking her own abduction, prompting a massive two-day search, has been charged with two misdemeanors in connection with the headline-grabbing hoax – though police admit they still “have no idea” where she actually went.
Carlee Russell, a 26-year-old nursing student, was charged on Friday with one count of false reporting to law enforcement and one count of falsely reporting an incident after she “disappeared” on July 13.
Both counts are class A misdemeanors that carry a maximum penalty of one year behind bars and a $6,000 fine, Hoover Police Chief Nick Gerzis said at the afternoon press conference.
Russell turned herself in with her attorney, Emory Anthony, at Hoover City Jail within an hour of the presser, which was held at 1:30 p.m. local time, Gerzis added.

As she should be. Resources were expended looking for her and the non-existent child who was thought to be in danger.
She planned the stunt and did it all for attention. Well, now she has the attention she craved.
However, when I hear of a strange crime, I often look up information as to how someone could do such a thing. I often joke with my husband that he had best stay healthy and not die under questionable or strange circumstances. My search history might look a bit suspicious. For instance when I saw she had researched the movie “Taken”, I looked it up to refresh my memory of the plot line. (It was a good movie!) When I read of a wife poisoning her husband, I looked up the symptoms it caused and how much was needed to kill someone. Hubby said I’d best not do that. LOL
So just another case that if you’re black and commit a crime, it is automatically a misdemeanor. To bad that doesn’t work for the Jan 6th “terrorist” that invaded Queen Nazi Pelosi’s castle.
Like all democrat party soldiers, she will be let off with no punishment when everyone stops looking.
Has to do with Alabama law. And that must be changed.

Nip this kind of crap in the bud...throw the book at her. Her stunt drew public resources (e.g., police and firefighters) away from their normal public use to look for someone who was faking an abduction, endangering others. Jail time of 1 year, not just 150 days like Jessie Smollett, would send a message. Letting things slide, like the courts did with Hunter Biden, just encourages others to do the same.
If it was a white heterosexual male, GoFundMe would decline any account being opened......unless it's for a sex change, etc.
Ha! My wife watches every reality crime show that has ever been produced. I often tease her that she’s plotting how to get away with my murder. Of course, she has nothing much to gain financially by my death - but that’s actually in her favor... no motive.
I bet she has a publicist, and said publicist cooked this up with her.
