Pro-Russia bloggers on Twitter are comparing it to the Japanese navy, which at the end of the war requested a fuel allocation so they could die attacking the US rather than be destroyed at harbour.

This ‘war’ is a tragic thing. Russia started it, and needs to end it by retreating and tucking its tail between its leg. It lost the day it invaded, there’s no economic or resource or political gain by it.
It’s just machismo, which is the worst excuse for killing people possible. There’s not even a commie vs capitalism ideology reason. There’s nothing there.
Here is what one Russian mil-blogger had to say about the situation. Funny, he doesn't say anything about the Russians having any success in Staromaiorske at all.
Actually it does remind me a lot of Japan attacking the USA, Russia attacking Ukraine. Both baseless attempts of small dick syndrome for no real expectation of a good outcome.
