In the video, the host Peter Santanello who has visited many reservations, addresses this -- the obvious the difference between a well-functioning tribe like the Eastern Cherokee versus a tribe with bone-deep political corruption.
That is very true about tribal corruption. Case in point. In 1996, the 316 Pequot adult tribal members were getting on average over $100,000 each a year from Ct Foxwoods casino for 20 years. The tribe expanded to 1000 members, some corruption set in and hard times during recessions and competition from other newer Indian casinos built in the area have limited their payouts which are still not bad
Yes. They are quite corrupt.
Why do we allow citizens of their own sovereign nations to vote in our elections and receive our tax money?
They are not sovereign nations but dependent nations.
Better question is why do we allow Puerto Rico to vote in our elections and receive our tax money? They should be cut loose or made into a state.
Puerto Rico has no electoral votes.
Their “primary” election votes are basically a show.
And heavens no don’t make them a state, that would be two more guaranteed Democrat Senators.

“The Shakopee Mdewakanton are the wealthiest Native American tribe, going by the individual personal wealth. They are 480 members, and each member gets around $84,000 per month, as disclosed by a tribe member going through a divorce.
The tribe is so rich that no one has to work; in 2012, the tribe’s President then, Stanley R. Crooks, bragged that they enjoy 99.2% of voluntary unemployment.”
I think Liz Warren picked the wrong tribe to say she was a blood sister. lol
That’s good money for sure but I wonder if it’s corrosive to the character of the people?
I had a pastor who was once at a church where a parishioner won a huge lottery payout and donated it to the church, and it basically destroyed the congregation.
Yes, if you live in Puerto Rico you do not have an electoral vote. If you are Puerto Rican and live anywhere in the US your vote counts like anyone else.
Thanks to the Jones Act our relationship with Puerto Rico is complicated. They are US citizens (because dear ol WW wanted to draft them as cannon fodder for his endless string of wars) but it is not a state.
I would not be so sure about the Senators being Democrats.
I would prefer to cut them loose but I do not see any way to do that. They are US citizens.
One way or another we need to get off the dime. Continual territory status is not healthy and prone to abuse.
My recommendation is next time Trump is POTUS, appoint AOC as Czarina of PR and spin it off to Venezuela.
Not possible but funny.
You want something scary?
By the rules AOC is a natural born citizen and fully qualified to be POTUS.
