DeSantis targeted by more negative expenditures than Biden and Trump combined
Washington Examiner ^ | August 14, 2023 | Julia Johnson

A quarter of all independent expenditures in the 2024 election cycle, $20.2 million, has targeted Gov. Ron DeSantis, more than has been spent in either positive or negative independent expenditures for former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden combined.

Trump, the Republican front-runner, was hit with just $8.1 million of negative independent expenditures directed toward him, according to data compiled by Republican consultant Rob Pyers. Biden, the incumbent president and front-runner for the 2024 Democratic nomination, was attacked with $9.2 million of independent expenditures.

“The top folks in polling always attract the most negative advertising. However, few Republican candidates are willing to go negative on Trump — so DeSantis ends up taking the most fire," Republican pollster Doug Usher said.

Republican strategist Doug Heye came to a similar conclusion. "Most Republican campaigns, or those with funds, have determined that DeSantis is their biggest obstacle, thus the spending against him," he explained. As for why they have opted against negatively targeting Trump, he said, "If candidates aren't going to go out of their way to criticize Trump every time he's indicted, you sure aren't going to see funds spent attacking him."

GOP strategist Ron Bonjean agreed that the expenditures are part of an effort to define DeSantis early for voters. “DeSantis would be the front-runner if Trump wasn’t in the presidential race," he said. "That’s why outside groups are spending so much money in a rush to define him early, in case he ends up being the Republican nominee.”

That ought to tell you something. They hate Trump; they fear DeSantis.

desantis could actually have an outside chance of managing the bureaucracy over time, somewhat.

Yeah, we’ve seen that here on FR with paid posters. Lot’s of money to keep DeSantis down and out. I think this will be the wasted effort and money this election cycle. Can they keep it up for another 154 days? All DeSantis has to do is wait them out. He’s raised more money, has good conservative platform, good family, successes, and all.

They may hate Trump but they would love for him to be the Republican candidate and they are working hard to make sure it happens.

The sexual weirdo community hates DeSantis. Yeah, they hate Trump but with DeSantis it’s off the wall hatred. DeSantis took their groomer porn out of school libraries... and that was just for starters.

Agreed. Follow the money.

The left is trying to take him down. Puffing up candidates that have zero chance.

I would prefer a tyrannosaurus ate or destroyed 2/3 of the bureacracy.

Not managed it.

Managers manage what exists.

Makes sense, 95% of the media is ProBiden anti-Trump and 100% of the deep state globalists are America last anti-Trump. Not much needs to be spent on those two, the media and deep state have it covered. DeSantis is where the big impact of cash will be, because the media isn’t on board with him and he’s no real threat to the deep state as everyone recognizes his alignment with them in so many ways, including persecuting President Trump.

I haven’t seen or heard a single anti DeSantis. So where is it all playing?

Your argument - that the deep state opposes Trump, but DeSantis even more, even though they supposedly aren’t afraid of DeSantis - makes no sense.

In your scenario, Trump would be the one who had more negative ads against him, than Biden and DeSantis combined.

But, it’s DeSantis who has more negative ads against him, than Biden and Trump combined.

If they weren’t afraid of DeSantis, there would be no negative expenditures against him, or at least far less than the other two, which is obviously not the case.

No, nobody has to spend money to get Trump. Only DeSantis.

DeSantis is sending out far more negativity to the GOP base than $20M could ever buy anyone.

Cannot speak for others here, but I haven’t seen a negative ad for DeSantis, yet I now know full well that he’s not MAGA, and MAGA is the only hope for the country.

Plus, that’s not what my argument stated, you made up your own premises out of thin air.

Here's exactly what you said:

DeSantis is where the big impact of cash will be, because the media isn’t on board with him and he’s no real threat to the deep state

That makes no sense, at all. If the media isn't on board with him, and he's no real threat to to the deep state, he could be easily ignored. Instead, he has more negative ads against him that Trump and Biden combined, and it's sure not because the media is behind him. What does that leave? I've probably lost you already, but others will get the point.

Wait them out?
DeSantis just burned through $35 million in Iowa alone.
He got booed and heckled by both Trump supporters and by Leftists.
There’s no path to the nomination for DeSantis. Trump supporters aren’t going to vote for him and he’ll get cheated out of swing states just like they did to Trump in 2020.
The guy just nuked his political future and he’s only 44 years old.
