There are no guarantees. A lot of people were saying Barbie was going to bomb yet it’s now the biggest picture of the summer. This could be a hit but it will make no difference to my cultural life. I will never see it like almost all of current big entertainment offerings.
At least the lead character in The Barbie movie is white.

My 40 year old son told me that he wants to watch Barbie with me. I told him that I am not comfortable going to a movie targeted at preteen girls. But he tells me that plenty of adults have been talking about the movie and that it is a great chance to mock over-the-top feminism.
He said that from what he has heard in conversations, in the end, it is a bunch of guys who save the uber-feminist Barbies from themselves.
I don’t know. But the movie does have fairly decent reviews.
I’m a bit skeptical of Hollywood accounting practices wherein it takes a half billion dollars or a billion dollars in ticket sales to break even. I’m not saying Hollywood types would do anything dishonest, but I’m just sayin...
