Propane tanks rust, if they’re made of steel.

This reminds me of those carburetors that would get you 100 miles to the gallon. It just wasn’t true.

Whenever I hear “massive capacity and charges in *minutes*” - it should always give you pause...because they’re implying they can dump a massive amount of power from the grid en-mass into lots of vehicles. Even ONE vehicle is a problem. It’s a lot of Watts and there’s a thing called ‘resistance’ in cabling. The grid would melt, probably including the cable plugged into your car.

But it does have merit imho. I’ve seen this done in China with scooter batteries. These are small enough to handle, so you just deposit the old one into a slot, make a payment, and another pops out for you.

You can at least easily imagine it being standardized. I’m sure there’s ‘challenges’ - always is but it does make sense.

Mr. Fusion does not exist....

The energy density to move anything like this in battery form would be massive. And then to transfer said energy in “minutes” would be explosive. Don’t have my formulae in front of me but we won’t be seeing this anytime soon.

That was how many ev makers sold the idea how their cars would work. Tesla promoted these battery swap stations. Ome othe car company did too.

The local power grid would go into a brown out to charge it.

“could, “soon”, “maybe” are all weasel words.

Let us know when the products actually make it to the market.

You got east and west mixed up. I’ve been to both places. Quoddy is east, Alava is west.

Actually what messed up was what I assume is an AI that the Brave Browser uses for some search requests. I guess I will have to start fact checking the vaunted AI being used by Brave browsers. Need to tell Brave that their AI is nothing but BS. 🀣

What I was really after was the distance, because there is no coast-to-coast distance that is even close to a thousand miles. I didn't want to use the 3,000 mile figure, even though I think that is the more accurate driving mileage figure. Should have just stuck with the 3,00 mile number after all. 🀣

Good catch and thanks for informing me of the error. πŸ™‚

The amount of energy you can transfer in a second at the gas pump would take over an hour at a 5000 W charging station.

This /\. People have no idea how much energy is stored in a gas tank. Although that mainly because we're not carrying around the oxidizer: we get that for free. Don't forget to thank the phytoplankton.

When they describe how fast this thing is supposed to charge it is just absurd on its face. You're going to push how much voltage through a charger in a matter of "minutes". I sure as hell wouldn't be fool enough to stand anywhere near something like that.

What’s the catch? Don’t drive over 30mph? Don’t drive more than 30 minutes at a time?
