We Shall Overcome. Trump gets a big jump in the black vote-then what? Sing it at his inauguration.
Funny true story.
Bob Dylan never attended any protest with one exception, verified by biographer Clinton Heylin and also Joan Baez: “People ask me will Bob Dylan be at the protest tomorrow? and I say no, you moron. He never ever goes to any protests.”
He was asked to sing a song at the March of Washington on March 28, 1963 and he agreed. He sat next to a friend Hugh Romney (who later became known as Wavy Gravy traveling with novelist Ken Kesey in a hippie bus and introducing acts at Woodstock).*
As Dr.Martin Luther King came to the microphones to begin his “I Have a Dream” speech, Roney leaned over to Bob Dylan and said “I hope he doesn’t talk too long. Mahalia Jackson is gonna sing. I hope he doesn’t cut into her time.”
*Somehow he got actress Bonnie Beecher to actually marry him. She had been on Star Trek and the Twilight Zone and many others.
