Woman on lawn mower hit and killed by plane in Oklahoma

A woman is dead after authorities say she was struck by a plane while mowing the lawn in Oklahoma last week.
The woman, identified as 27-year-old Samantha Hayes, was on a lawn mower at the Broken Bow Airport in McCurtain County Friday afternoon, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
At the same time, a 1972 Bonanza A36 piloted by a 70-year-old man was coming in to land on the runway.

Seems someone wasn’t where they were supposed to be. Doesn’t look like this airport has a tower so she likely didn’t hear him coming in.

There’s quite a bit missing from this story. Did she ride onto the runway? Did the plane veer too close to her yard? Was it an “outback” sort of landing strip that needed to be mowed and it was just sort of bad luck/poor timing?

coming in to land on the runway... On final approach, GA planes are at idle, and if one is on a mower with mower engine noise, you won't hear the landing aircraft.
But, this airport is not a grass strip, and in-theory, she was not "mowing" the runway (well, some airports with really crappy runways they *do* have to mow the runway). And, if she was crossing it, must of been trained to always and reflexively look for aircraft.

The pilot descended the plane, landed, and after touching down, officials said he saw Hayes on the lawn mower. According to authorities, the pilot then tried to pull up the plane, but the wing struck Hayes in the head. She was pronounced dead at the scene.It sounds as though Ms. Hayes was right next to the runway, but it's possible she was on the pavement.
