For a ~30 year old it’s still a lot. And they can still only do the most basic things at a competent level. Very typical scenario - we give them a fairly simple task to diagnose, on a specific system. In no time, they will come back and say they have it figured out, even though it’s obvious they did little research and never even logged into the system in question. Then, sure enough, when we try to apply their fix, it fixes nothing. Then they won’t ever mention it again, for two weeks, when you have to ask them about an update, and they have nothing new to report.
You should fire them. Give that work to the competent ones, and bonus them. You are the problem.
