The Rolling Stones and The Beatles have had a perceived rivalry since the '60s, but Keith Richards thinks John Lennon and George Harrison would've fit well in the Stones' lineup.
“I don’t think John Lennon would have had much problem fitting into the Stones, or George, if you can imagine that sort of thing happening,” the guitarist admitted during an interview with The Telegraph. “We were the same generation, and we all loved the same music. When we first heard The Beatles, we were relieved that there was some other band in England on the same track that we were on. And within a few months, that track was the main track.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Richards spoke about Paul McCartney playing bass on "Bite Your Head Off" — a track featured on their upcoming album Hackney Diamonds. “Paul happened to be in town…And we couldn’t keep him away, bless his heart," he said. “And hey, if you can get one of the Beatles on your track, you know, you do it.”
“Paul’s a very amiable cat to play with; we’ve been great friends forever,” Richards added endearingly. Hackney Diamonds is the Stones' first album of new material in nearly 20 years and first since drummer Charlie Watts' death. Last week, Ronnie Wood confirmed that Watts recorded drums for "Live By The Sword" and "Mess It Up" before passing away in 2021.
I would have thought Ringo would have fit into the Rolling Stones quite well, Charlie Watts notwithstanding.
I’m more a Beatles than a Stones person, so I’d prefer to keep them separate.
I think Paul should come out with a joke! ‘Why should they have joined the Stones? We sold more records than you’ or something. 😆
He’s right, Lennon first, Harrison second, Ringo third, Macca, not.
Keith Richards looks like a gargoyle, but both he and Mick come across like good guys. I pray for their salvation and believe they have or will get saved and go to heaven. Rolling into Heaven...
Weird statement likely taken out of context
That said, of course he’d want George. He was a great musician and a great songwriter who got shoved aside
“Something”. “Here Comes the Sun” “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” just to start.
He created “All Things Must Pass” with Derek and the Dominoes (minus Duane).
Got the Traveling Wilburys together.
Even the Queen snubbed him for knighthood. BS
Kieth knows what he was

Ringo was the only rocker in the band. I love Ringo.
"Ringo, are you a Mod or a Rocker?"
"I'm a Mocker."
That was awesome.
It would have sounded a bit more respectful if Keith Richards had admitted he had fantasies of being a Beatle, rather than suggesting the Beatles would have wanted to join the Rolling Stones.
Didn’t the Stones just announce their Wheelchair Tour?
There’s something beautiful about the raw purity of the Stones. The Beatles boys are more polished. I can’t see them mixing. However, the Traveling Wilburies seem to prove me wrong.
The Beatles didn’t fit well with each other. They rather quickly broke up.
I always get the sense that Keith is jealous. I think he feels the Stones are greater than the Beatles, but knows the history books will always put the Liverpool lads first. It eats at him.
If the Lennon and McCartney didn’t let The Stones record their “I Wanna Be Your Man”, they might never have gotten off the ground.
They already had their Steel Wheelchairs tour quite a while back, LOL.
Mccartney recently quoted tha the Beatles were better than the stones. It was funny. All designed to stay in the news. This is no different.
Yeah, I think it's best that way. During ACDC's most recent tour, Brian Johnson was forced by his Doctor to end the tour or go deaf. So, Axel Rose sand for the rest of the tour. I did not like it at all.
