How WeightWatchers is joining the cultural shift on obesity [Money & No Responsibility]
Axios ^ | 10/10/2023 | Tina Reed

Sima Sistani, CEO of the storied WeightWatchers brand, has become well-practiced at saying three little words: "We were wrong."

Driving the news: At the annual HLTH conference in Las Vegas, Sistani once again explained how a company that's long preached self-restraint and behavioral change is embracing blockbuster weight-loss drugs like Wegovy and Ozempic...

The company, rechristened WW International in 2018, this spring acquired telehealth company Sequence for $132 million.

Sequence connects patients with doctors who can prescribe much-touted GLP-1 drugs like Wegovy and Ozempic. (Ozempic, a diabetes drug, is often used off-label for obesity.) Some analysts say the arrangement could save the venerable brand after years in the doldrums and generate hundreds of millions of dollars in new revenue through an expanded customer

Buy a drug company and pretend all your problems can be solved by taking a pill.

Sick.

Just wait until these weight-loss drugs prove to have serious side-effects in some portion of their customers

The new “WW” will be sued into oblivion

It certainly helps folks lose weight
Have you looked around this nation lately
I’m in Cracker Barrel crossville TN right now with four teen lads heading back from Smokies

75% of the women in here are obese to apron level fat

Men likely 40% are at least a third overweight

People today unlike my youth simply cannot control caloric intake like when I was a kid

And we excuse it

If this helps them why so angry?

Every pharmaceutical is not bad

You ever see death rates pre antibiotics

I could go on

Some people are naturally meant to be heavy - one can tell from their bone structure. Having some above average pounds has a genetic advantage overall.

Other people are overweight from eating too much overly processed food, drinking carbonated beverages that break down food in the stomach fast, and because some prescription drugs cause weight gain.

Basically Ozempic works by slowing down digestion.

So.. I guess you must feel constipated all the time?

um... why not just shove less food in your mouth? why is that so hard?

Yes, people are eating the wrong kinds of foods, especially carbohydrates. I don’t think there’s any less discipline now than there was back in the day, it’s just that the crappy processed foods were not as available back then.

Ozempic is a drug used for type 2 diabetes treatments, because of its newfound usage as a diet drug for people too lazy to eat better and exercise, there is a shortage of it.

The primary people being prescribed this medication for weight loss is gen z females.
Gotta keep those TikTok and OF views coming in. Sorry about your diabetes.

I should add that portion sizes in American restaurants are large because people expect a lot of food for the prices being charged.

“exercise”

One woman I knew took me to her fitness club.

It takes a lot of exercise to burn off calories according to what the machines said.

Easier to not eat too much food in the first place, that is for sure.

Probably doesn’t help that you’re in a place that specializes in high fat, high carb comfort food. I mean just looking at their menu online is gonna ingest 500 calories. Go to a salad place, things will look different.

I’ve tried all the meal delivery systems: Weight Watchers, Nutrisystem, HelloFresh, Diet-to-Go, Factor, BistroMD, all of the others.

Didn’t work.

Maybe I shouldn’t have done them all at the same time.....................
