Labradors are just as likely to attack as pit bulls, a lot more Labradors are owned than pit bulls.
Ask yourself, what group of people have access to guns and use them irresponsibly, then compare that to who owns pit bulls that attack, they are likely the same people.
How do you know they are unprovoked, unless you read it in a news article, we all know the news media is never wrong.

if a pit bull attacks, they have to be euthanized, it’s unfortunate the dog has to die because often times a person has failed them, but it’s got to be done.

Are pit bull owners punished for allowing their dogs to attack or being irresponsible owners, in most cases they are probably not.

I’m lucky that I’m in Texas, I open carry walking my dog. I do conceal in town though, just to be respectful. No license needed.
I’ve never owned one and I never will own one, I’m not willing to put in the time and effort to train them properly.
Are pit bulls aggressive, they are, but so are rottweilers, Dobermans, Shepards, Malinois, etc., they can all be dangerous animals if not properly socialized and trained.
A lot of the people who are irresponsible with guns are the same people who own Pit Bulls.
As far as seeing a pit bull turn the switch and attack, I’ve recently seen a golden retriever in our neighborhood attack multiple dogs and bite multiple people.
When I speak of the cases where the dog was completely unprovoked, I am just quoting the people involved. I’m thinking more of the cases where the pet has been gentle and kind with the children, and for no reason turned on them. I’m trusting the parent is telling the truth.
A dog is a living thing. A gun is not. Some negligence is required for a child to kill with a gun. We can’t ban cars because of careless people leaving keys in the car, or other mishaps with children. A gun is in the same category.
Banning a dangerous breed of dog will hurt nobody. A dog that is known to snap. Not having this dog available does not make a darned bit of difference. There’s lots of dogs. I realize we will never eliminate all dog attacks, but the pit bull is notorious for this and they’re so strong, they often cannot be stopped.
What if someone wanted a nice lion for a pet? A nice bear? Tiger? There’s a reason dangerous animals are not allowed, especially in more populated areas. AFAIC, pit bulls should be on the list. Best we just agree to disagree.

I’ve had a Chihuahua chewing on my shoe while I talked to someone.
You don’t seem to know the difference between a biting (technically an attack) and a killing attack (an attack to the death), or killing attacks that are barely survived with limbs missing and calves and arm muscles and face torn off.

From your own source you are comparing 51 deaths over 18 years to pit bulls which are killing an American every 9 days on average, along with massive numbers of crippled and disfigured survivors.

This is what my husband says. He encounters different breeds during his workday and says there was only one time that his taking a commanding stance did not work to calm or prevent aggression.
We will just agree to disagree, negligence is not unique to gun owners for them to kill, dog owners are often just as negligent.
Just look at the argument, banning a dangerous breed won’t hurt anyone, many other breeds exist.
Neither will banning the AR-15 when you can own any other rifle, shotgun or pistol, we shouldn’t do either one IMO.
Lions, tigers and bears are not now and have never been domesticated animals, millions of pit bulls are.
