It might have worked better as a television limited series. People aren’t going to theaters anymore, and they like long narrative arcs, multiple story lines, and waiting for the next episode.
There’s been some discussion about how “woke” the movie is. Yes, Indians are the victims and White men are the villains, but White federal agents are the heroes, and it’s said that there’s not resentment or hostility to them in the film. That may be the problem: Do you really want to see hero FBI agents nowadays?
Unless there are lots and lots of explosions.
I started listening to the audio book of the novel. It’s like they wrote a story and let it out to dry in an Oklahoma summer heat. Very long winded and dry. The author takes three paragraphs where a single sentence would work.
I think they are the villains (though DiCaprio may be a sympathetic one), and I guess they get caught in the end.
Is it worth seeing Bobby DeNiro get his comeuppance if you have to give him money to see it?
I read a review of the book also. I’m a reader. I had to pass on it. It sounded like bleeding heart bullsh*t to me. Didn’t plan on ever seeing the movie.
The movie is too woke, beats the audience into a coma about white man bad, nonstop.
“It’s a story worth telling”
But today is it like throwing a cup of water into Niagara Falls?
My friend’s relatives are portrayed in the movie. They were a couple of the bad guys.
The book was a good read.
NEVER a DiNero fan and never a Scorsese fan either, so it was a no for me before it was out of the can.
Did they manage to tie in the Osage murders with the 1921 Tulsa Race Riot?
Interesting that the US never had a war with the Osages. They moved to Southern Kansas, stopped Confederate detachments trying to slip into Colorado, moved (of their own free will) to the reservation they are on now, Scouted for Custer against the Cheyennes who had been raiding in Kansas.
Then oil was discovered on their reservation.
Di Nero needs to go back to selling cars as he did in 1970.

I think DiCaprio is quite a good actor despite his idiotic politics. DeNiro - you couldn’t pay me to see him, unless I got to spit on him as part of the deal .
Yeah, his politics suck, but I have to admit he's a pretty good actor. The scene on the yacht in "The Wolf Of Wall Street" with the FBI agent is classic.
For the first time in 13 years I might go to the theater to see this one.(NAPOLEON). I am so interested in it I pulled out my old copy of the 1927 version and my copy of WATERLOO to rewatch!
I might watch “Killers ......Moon” if I have a week to spare.
Superheros! Need men in tights to fly in and save the day! Explosions! Lots of fireworks! Then today’s young might be interested in it!
Critical Drinker says it ain’t woke. He’s usually pretty reliable. Too long mainly.
Interesting thing is..it did not just happen in the Osage Nation. It happened all over Indian Territory in Oklahoma back in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Following the Indian Allotment Act which was part of the Dawes Act, thousands of white men from the upper midwest and the eastern parts of the US migrated to Indian Territory to find and marry an Indian woman to get her allotment, which included mineral rights. My wife, who is part Chickasaw Indian. Her great great grandmother, who was full blood, married a white man, had a child, was admitted to the Chickasaw nation via intermarriage, then my wife’s great great grandmother mysteriously died. He then remarried another Indian woman. He got both allotments. We suspect it was a similar situation to the one in the movie. There were hundreds of such cases back then all over Indian Territory.
In reality they were bad. Extremely so. The Osage were treated brutally by vicious Anglo criminals. Showing that isn’t “woke”.
Silence was the same. Great slow movie, but you just can’t do this for over 3 hours. That’s asking for failure.
I doubt Martin gives a crap about BO success anymore, he’s done enough to cement top 5 directors in the last 50 years.
People are sick to death with that BS and with De Niro and Leo, too
