For that short a flight, you were on a 737 (maybe a -900 variant), most likely.

Actually, you're right. We flew from LA to Dallas and then to Tampa. It's the first leg that we flew on a 777-9, and that was the plane with the narrow aisles and narrow seats. And in reality, that first leg was shorter trip, some 2 hrs and 28 minutes. It's the last leg that had the 737, and those seats were a bit more pleasant, but not by much. I still hate the 777-X, and that is the plane that I hope I never have to ride in again.

Then I'm guessing you were on America's worst airline - American - since they sometimes use older (90's-00's vintage) 777-200's on that L.A. to Dallas route and the Economy Class seating across American's entire fleet is indeed terrible.

Nothing to do with the 777-X which does not enter service until 2025 and has not been ordered by any US airlines yet. Airlines wanting to run a US-style cattle car domestic service won't buy a product like the 777-9 anyway - it's too expensive for them.
