Finland early on Saturday (November 18) closed four crossings on its border with Russia as Helsinki seeks to halt a flow of asylum seekers it says was instigated by Moscow. The Finnish Border Guard on Friday (November 17) announced it would erect barriers from midnight local time at the Vaalimaa, Nuijamaa, Imatra and Niirala border posts in southeast Finland, which account for much of the travel between the two countries. Reuters filmed migrants arriving at the Vaalimaa border post late on Friday night. Finland shares a 1,340-km (830-mile) border with Russia that also serves as the EU’s external border. Some 300 asylum seekers, mostly from Iraq, Yemen, Somalia and Syria, have arrived in Finland this week, according to the Border Guard.

I wish good health to all Ukrainians!
The main points for today.
First, once again, I congratulate all Ukrainian sergeants and warrant officers on their professional day! I thank every sergeant and warrant officer who genuinely cares for the soldiers, supports the fighting spirit in their units, and knows how to be leaders for the troops. During the full-scale war, over 13,000 sergeants have been honored with state awards. Yesterday, I signed a decree to award another hundred Ukrainian sergeants – the best, the strongest. I am proud of you all.
Second, for today. Several decisions on sanctions of the National Security and Defense Council have been put into effect. Almost 40 Russian legal entities and over 100 individuals, including those involved in the kidnapping and deportation of Ukrainian children from the occupied territory. Also, individuals who, in various ways, assist Russian terror against Ukraine. We are increasing the pressure of our state on them. Each of them must be accountable for what they have done, and we will not leave any connection of these people with Ukraine.
Third, I want to acknowledge the countries that announced new assistance to our state this week. Germany, Finland, Lithuania – thank you for the new defense packages. Estonia – over the next few years, they will increase security investments in the production of ammunition. And this is important. Norway and the United Kingdom – decisions have been made on new humanitarian packages for Ukraine and Ukrainians. Thank you. We are already preparing new steps – security steps – in the coming weeks. This includes strengthening air defense.
Another thing. Last night, almost 30 ‘Shaheds’ were destroyed in our sky. I thank all the soldiers of mobile fire groups, the aviation of our Air Force, and the anti-aircraft missile troops. Your accuracy, guys, is literally life for Ukraine. As winter approaches, there will be more Russian attempts to make the strikes more powerful. It is crucial for all of us in Ukraine to be one hundred percent effective. Despite all the difficulties. Despite all the fatigue. Despite any attempts to weaken Ukraine. Respect and glory to everyone who fights for the country, everyone who helps and works to ensure that Ukraine can defend and protect its independence. It depends on everyone, on everyone who is resilient. On all who are effective. On each and every one who can add and adds
strength and perspective to Ukraine. Please use every opportunity to strengthen the state.

Denmark will inspect tankers carrying Russian oil in its territorial waters, The Financial Times has reported, citing senior European officials. The European Union has drastically reduced imports of coal, oil and natural gas from Russia since Putin has launched the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. On the instruction of the Head of State and within the framework of ongoing dialogue, Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak had a phone call with Italian Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy Adolfo Urso.
The head of the President’s Office thanked the government and people of Italy for the continued unwavering support of Ukraine and the Ukrainian people in the struggle for freedom and common European democratic values.
Specifically, Andriy Yermak commended the personal leadership of Prime Minister of the Italian Republic Giorgia Meloni in comprehensive support for our state and the consolidation of European partners around assistance to Ukraine.
The interlocutors discussed the situation on the front, further security cooperation, and the preparation of the 12th package of EU sanctions against Russia.
The head of the Office of the President said that today, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed decrees on the imposition of additional sanctions by Ukraine on individuals and legal entities supporting the aggressor.
The head of the President’s Office also expressed gratitude to Italy for supporting the Peace Formula, especially for the participation of the Italian representative in the national security and political advisors’ meeting in Malta.
Continuing the dialogue between President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Prime Minister of Italy Giorgia Meloni, Andriy Yermak and Adolfo Urso discussed the directions of cooperation during Italy’s future G7 presidency next year.

Day 633 of the russian full-scale military aggression against Ukraine has begun.
The russian federation continues to ignore the laws and customs of warfare, using the terror tactics, launching missile and air strikes, and firing multiple launch rocket systems not only at the military, but also at numerous civilian targets across Ukraine.
During the day of November 17, russian occupants launched 1 air strike on Ukraine, using Shahed-136/131 attack UAVs. The Ukrainian air defense destroyed 9 attack UAVs. Also last night, russian occupants launched yet another air strike on Ukraine. Information on the aftermath of this terrorist attack is currently being updated.
During the day of November 17, there were 67 combat engagements. The enemy launched a total of 1 missile and 37 air strikes, 41 MLRS attacks at the positions of Ukrainian troops and various settlements. Unfortunately, the russian terrorist attacks have wounded civilians. Residential buildings and other civilian infrastructure were destroyed or damaged.
Air strikes hit Kupyansk (Kharkiv oblast), Pobjeda, Novomykhailivka, Vodyane, Urozhaine (Donetsk oblast), Novodanylivka (Zaporizhzhia oblast), and Tyahynka (Kherson oblast).
More than 100 settlements in Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, Luhansk, Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, and Mykolayiv oblasts came under artillery fire.
Pivnich operational-strategic group, VOLYN and POLISSYA AXIS: no significant changes.
SIVERSHCHYNA and SOBOZHANSHCHYNA AXIS: the adversary maintains its military presence in the areas of russia bordering Ukraine. The enemy troops conduct active subversive activities in order to prevent the deployment of Ukrainian troops to threatened axes. The adversary increases the density of minefields along the state border in Belgorod oblast (russia).
Khortytsia operational-strategic group, KUPYANSK AXIS: the enemy conducted assault operations in the vicinities of Synkivka, Petropavlivka, and Ivanivka (Kharkiv oblast), where Ukrainian soldiers repelled 4 attacks.
LYMAN AXIS: the adversary conducted unsuccessful assault operations north of Serebryanka (Donetsk oblast).
BAKHMUT AXIS: the Ukrainian defenders repelled 11 attacks of the occupiers in the vicinities of Vasyukivka, Klishchiivka, and Andriyivka (Donetsk oblast). In turn, the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue assault operations south of Bakhmut (Donetsk oblast), inflict losses in manpower and equipment on the enemy, and consolidate their new positions.
Tavria operational-strategic group, AVDIYIVKA AXIS: the adversary keeps trying to encircle Avdiyivka. The Ukrainian soldiers are standing their AXIS and inflicting major losses on the invaders. The occupiers’ offensive operations near Keramik, east of Novobakhmutivka, Stepove, Avdiyivka, and south of Tonenke (Donetsk oblast) were unsuccessful. The Ukrainian Forces repelled 23 attacks in that area.
MARYINKA AXIS: the enemy conducted unsuccessful assault operations in the vicinities of Maryinka and Novomykhailivka (Donetsk oblast). The Ukrainian soldiers repelled 21 attacks in that area.
SHAKHTARSKE AXIS: the invaders conducted assault operations south of Vodyane (Donetsk oblast), to no success.
ZAPORIZHZHIA AXIS: the adversary conducted unsuccessful assault operations near Robotyne and west of Verbove (Zaporizhzhia oblast). The Ukrainian defenders repelled 3 attacks in that area.
At the same time, the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue their offensive operation on Melitopol axis, inflicting losses in manpower and equipment on the occupation forces, exhausting the enemy all along the front line.
Odesa operational-strategic group, Kherson axis: the Ukrainian soldiers conduct counter-battery fire and strike behind the enemy lines.
Ukrainian marines, together with other components of the Defense Forces, continue to hold positions on the left bank of the Dnipro River, where they repelled 12 enemy attacks during the day of November 17. The Ukrainian defenders are consolidating their positions and inflicting fire damage on the occupiers.
During the day of November 17, Ukrainian Air Force launched 10 air strikes on the concentrations of troops, weapons and military equipment, and 2 air strikes on anti-aircraft missile systems of the adversary.
The Ukrainian missile troops hit 3 concentration of troops, weapons and military equipment, 6 artillery systems, 1 air defense system, 1 command post, and 1 ammunition depot of the russian invaders.

I spent some time touring websites that rank nations of the world in terms of military capacity as of April 2023.
Russia has about 142 million people, and the Ukraine hopes to win a war of attrition with it's 43.5 million people, many of whom have left the country (refugees or escaping conscription), been injured or killed.
The disparity's in capacity are laughably obvious, even though we are bombarded with propaganda that portrays this war as a close call. Here's a table showing which side has the advantage - I think the Ukraine has the geographic advantage in that it is fighting on it's own soil. Other than that, nada.
I know that this is actually NATO's war, but I recall the early memes of the Ukraine bragging that it alone was more than a match for Russia. And now NATO is pressuring Z for peace negotations.
Russia has 70 submarines, and the Ukraine doesn't have any. It certainly puts a different light on the massive Pro Ukraine celebrations about damaging Russian subs - the Ukrainians didn't have any of their own to be damaged so in their eyes, that's a big win - a sign of their military prowess??? Russia has over 4000 aircraft, the Ukraine has 312. We know the Ukraine's aircraft are no match (too old, lower tech) for Russia's and by now, some countries will have shipped their old fighters to the Ukraine. On and on it goes, and just now, another shilling thread touting the YOUCRAINE's supposedly imminent victory, as internationally the Ukraine has lost financial backing and is being pressured to negotiate.
The Global power website ranks Russia and the Ukraine among all militarized nations overall, and on a piecemeal basis. It counts able bodied (able to serve in military) and troop levels etc.
