Huifkar blended scotch. It’s good for the shakes.

When I was young (but not too young), if I was sick my father would give me a shot of whiskey at bedtime.

This is one way "the rich" park their money tax-free. They monetize something by paying 10,000x more for it than it's actually worth. Then 10 years later some other rich guy gives the original investor a 25% profit on his investment, and the beat goes on.

That's how doodles and kindergarten finger paintings like these come to be "worth" tens of millions:

Jackson Pollock's No. 5, $148 million

Mark Rothko's No. 10, $81.9 million

Buy it for a hyper-inflated price and it becomes a tax shelter. Then the art critics (who on the whole lack the talent to create something even this child-like) proclaim it a masterpiece and, Voilà, it is transformed into art.

For that much money you'd think they could go to the effort to think up a catchy title for it, huh?

I was born & raised in a snooty Connecticut suburb of NYC.

The scotch there flows like a large creek.

Never developed a taste for it, though. (I like bourbon [Maker’s Mark,] and rum, [Jane Barbancourt] and beer — most decent lables.

So what’s a good scotch for a non-scoth lover?
(Yeah, yeah: Crown Royal — but is even THAT one
all that tasty?) Mere high price tag doesn’t impress
me as a good quality indicator, necessarily...

Well, I'm part Scotch-Irish; so the extra seven or so bucks a bottle could explain my preference.

This makes EVERYTHING I drink seems cheap and irresponsible. :)

I’ve got a nice bottle of Scotch that is bottle 79 of 100 I am cracking open for a certain special occasion, but it is no where near what some might consider expensive. I drank bottle 34 for a previous special occasion, and it was damned good and worth every penny. I’ve got a sleuth working on another bottle for a future occasion.

I had a boss way back in my Air Force days that said Jack was a “sippin’ whiskey.” Of course, if you played that “sippin” in fast forward, there was a lot of guzzlin!
