A California woman was convicted of involuntary manslaughter Friday in the 2018 death of her boyfriend after she stabbed him over 100 times during a “cannabis-induced psychosis.”

The jury took less than four hours to find Bryn Spejcher, 32, guilty of killing her partner Chad O’Melia as she sobbed during the court appearance, according to KTLA 5.

The couple had only been together for a few weeks when Spejcher attacked O’Melia after she took two hits from his bong — a smoking device regularly used for marijuana — in May 2018.

I realize that the stuff is stronger today than it was a few decades ago.
But two hits from a bong?

The cannabis didn’t make her that crazy that fast.
She was just crazy.

So thrusting a knife in to another’s body, a hundred and eight times, is not a voluntary act?

How is stabbing over a hundred times only second degree manslaughter. Cannabis does not induce rage. This women ha anger management issues regardless of the drug.

Agree. Two hits from a bong and she should have been staring at the fish tank eating cheetos. 😏

“...fatally stabbing boyfriend 108 times...”

That’s quite a workout.

“guilty of killing her partner Chad O’Melia as she sobbed during the court appearance”

She was sobbing when she killed him in the courtroom. You’d think she could have waited until she got home.

The first stab may have been involuntarily, but by the hundredth, you may have had intent?

Marijuana makes you feel one with the universe—while you are stabbing folks around you...

California is a crazy place. The state, through its referendum process, legalized marijuana for recreational use. Now the drug is being used as a way to get murder charges downgraded to involuntary manslaughter.

Try this with alcohol?

You will now hear from pot smokers how cannabis doesn’t do this because it doesn’t do this to them.

They claim it isn’t like alcohol, but from my experience, it is more like it than they want to admit. There are friendly drunks and there are mean drunks. Most people who drink don’t get violent, but some do. My wife could put away a bottle of wine and be silly and fall asleep. My friend Bill could drink the same bottle and beat his wife and put her in the hospital and not remember doing it the next day.

Same with cannabis. Most people go mellow, get munchies, get kind of silly, but not all. Some people react really badly. My buddy likes smoke because it makes him feel strong and invincible. He gets really aggressive. It is almost a Jekyll/Hyde thing. Me? It makes me nauseous.

So did this chick go nutz after two bong hits? Over one hundred stab wounds would seem to say so.

Mind altering substances are not always safe for everyone.

Good post.

I am a fan of On Patrol Live and you can see this with both alcohol, marijuana and other drugs consistently.

You never know how someone will react under the influence of any substance—every person is different.

One hilarious marijuana stop recently—the cop pulls over a car for reckless driving and you can see the marijuana smoke billowing out of the driver side front window.

The cop comments “I have not seen this much marijuana smoke since watching a Cheech and Chong movie.” The driver and the passenger start laughing hysterically.

Innocent stuff—but obviously that car needed to be off the road before they or others were in an accident.
