Planning permission for 246-hectare Kildare solar farm granted [Ireland]

Planning permission has been granted for a solar farm spanning nearly 250 hectares in County Kildare.
The facility in the east of Kildare will have an operational lifespan of 40 years and have a maximum export capacity of around 210 megawatts of electricity.
The estimated construction value of the project is €197 million, according to the Construction Information Services database.
The facility is being developed by Dublin-based firm Delamain Solar Farm Limited, which was established last year. […]

So, 618 acres of photovoltaic panels on about a half of a square mile of land, supposed to last a mere four decades, at a cost of about $213 million that will probably increase as the project progresses.
Looks like the year-old Delamain Solar Farm Ltd. is set to become Ireland’s Solyndra.
