He was described as a 'broadcasting genius'...
TALKSPORT commentator Russell Hargreaves has sadly died at the age of just 45.
The radio station announced the devastating news on December 6, 2023.
Who was Russell Hargreaves? Russell was a commentator, reporter and live sports host from London.
He married his wife Rachel in 2011 and together they had three children.
He attended King Edward's School in 1996 before going on to study classics at Pembroke College, Cambridge.
Russell then gained a degree in journalism at City University London.
On December 6, 2023, it was announced that Russell had passed away.
In a statement, talkSPORT said: "We’re deeply saddened to tell you that Russell Hargreaves has passed away.
"Russ was a talented commentator, news reader and reporter for our network. But he was much more than that.
"A much loved friend and colleague to so many. We’re devastated by his passing. RIP, Russ."
...
A cause of death is yet to be confirmed.
In a tribute on the talkSPORT website, colleague Sean O'Brien said: "Nobody was better at finding the right words than Russ.
"Words were his thing. They are what we do. But right now, I can’t find any.
"You see, these words are supposed to honour the death of a close friend, gone far too soon.
"And it feels like they never got round to making the right ones to describe what he meant.
"But Russ would know what to say. It was one of many enviable talents for a man who emerged from Cambridge University with a Classics degree and an encyclopaedic knowledge of every sport.
"He was a broadcasting genius. Watching him do radio was mesmeric, like a Roger Federer backhand, or Tiger Woods from the middle of the fairway."
The head of talkSPORT, Liam Fisher also said: "Russ was always a wonderful professional who, whenever he came on air, gave brilliant energy and insight.
"A regular on our rugby and golf coverage he was also part of talkSPORT International delivering superb commentaries to our overseas partners."
He finished by adding that Russell's friendliness made him a "very approachable guy who will be much missed".
Like flies.
RIP
