Well the Reagan 80's will be remembered as the epitomie of "mall culture" , Dr. Evil Jeff Bezos of Amazon was the doom of the mall.
Merry Christmas to all.

Culture killed the mall. Patrons no longer feel safe.

I remember going to the Northwest Mall in St. Louis County as soon as I got my license in 1967. It was the teen hang-out of the day.
I’m so old that the Orange Julius put RAW egg in your drink!
All of us teens were well behaved and polite...unlike today’s “teens” that contributed so much to the death of so many malls.

Among the things that killed the malls:
Marketing specialists who were determined to make you walk extra miles to get where you wanted just so you could be forced to pass things they wanted to sell that you didn’t want.
People spraying perfume on you at all department store entrances.
Insanely badly managed parking and traffic management.
Access to public transportation...

This massive mall near me, in York, PA, opened in 1989, but is 70-75% empty now, as merchants have fled. All by 2 of the "anchor stores" are gone, and the "Hollywood Casino" occupies the Sears' west end of the mall, and might be the only thing that's keeping it open for the few retailers remaining.

i still like an enclosed mall over the open “town center” concept.
I am not going out to shop in crap weather. I will if i can stay warm and dry.

In Memphis it was clear why the malls died out...and it wasn’t online shopping and the economy.

Here in Vegas, the “Fashion Mall” located just off The Strip seems to be thriving but most of the patrons are visitors from out of state.

A catalog and the US Mail did the same thing to every town in the early 1900's until post WWII. Every town had a Woolworths or general mercantile. Sears killed them off.
Post WWII and interstates, automobile ownership, and social setting, gave rise to the "Mall Culture". Now you've got friends and goods on your smart phone.

Well idiotic tax laws made opening a mall a guaranteed money maker. So wat way way more were built than were needed
Laws changed and the decline began
Online has harmed retail for sure but the decline started when the tax laws changed

The local mall is mostly empty, but there was still a shooting there a few days ago. The only reason to go there is to fish in the nearby creek.

There are two kinds of malls:
The malls the white people go to.
The malls the white people used to go to.

The Socialist Loser asylum seeking bass turds are going to do the same thing to the big box stores. Walmart has gone full pander to the illegal alien hispanics. The labels on everything are already printed in “hispanic” so they can read them. They’re on their way out. It won’t be long now.

The biggest contributor to the decline of the shopping mall was the development of the “big box” store model that replaced the indoor mall. The “big box” shopping center concept was designed to eliminate indoor corridors and open spaces. This helped address two of the major flaws of the indoor mall:
1. It dramatically reduced costs for the mall owner by reducing indoor spaces outside the revenue-generating stores.
2. It discouraged casual shopping by forcing customers to travel directly to each store rather than wandering aimlessly between them without buying much merchandise.
And, yes — the elimination of indoor corridors and atriums also eliminated congregation spaces for mutants and thugs.

We shop different, too. Back then, we bought "bulk"...everything we could think of in one trip.
Now we go for this and that and it gets us out of the house and it's within a couple miles of home. It's a breather.

Biden is methodically destroying our economy and it no longer supports retail. They’ll keep chipping away at the ability for consumres to make purchasing decisions and eventually, we’ll have to order online to ‘request’ products from Government hubs.
