Bingo. There once was a huge mall about ten miles away from me. It was a wonderful place. Many nice shops and restaurants. It even had a full-size merry-go-round.
Then the mall owner made a fatal mistake. He put a bus stop at one entrance. About three months after that, a local cop told me to avoid the place on Fridays and Saturdays. It was just too dangerous.
The mall is still there, all boarded up. Part of the roof has collapsed. The owner has filed for bankruptcy.

Yup—it would be great to see an article comparing malls with bus stops to those far from any public transit.
I think we all know what the results would be.
Indoor malls have been replaced with large strip malls that still attract shoppers where there is no indoor area for “teens” to hang out and cause trouble.
It might be that the “mall owner” made the mistake of incorporating a bus stop.
When I worked in retail development decades ago, we well knew bus-stops brought in shoplifters, car thieves, and gang members, and resisted having them. Governments and their “planners” leverage power over site plan approvals and building permits to extort bus-stops (usually fancy and at the owners’ expense) and other communist desiderata.

Yep. Bannister Mall in KCMO had almost ZERO crime for 10 years. Within one (1) year of bus stop from Truman/Troost area ferals, there were 3 murders at or near Bannister mall. Great mall destroyed by the 13% in just a few years. Barren within 3 of bus stop intro.
