I think her drumming would make Moon and Bonham writhe on the floor in fear. Ringo might be able to keep up with her but he’d be a half beat off.

To be fair, Karen’s drum solo is most likely lip-synched, eg what you’re hearing isn’t what you’re seeing. It’s a close approximation - she’s hitting the snare when I hear a snare, and she’s hitting the hi-hat when I hear hi-hat on the backing track.

Karen clearly had good rudimentary skills, was able to play a battery of percussion, and (I suspect) could read music. That’s not true of Moonie or Bonham.

At the same time, Karen wouldn’t last a set with The Who circa 1969-1972, or Zeppelin circa 1969-1970. Different styles, tempers, and feel. Indeed, The Who’s late bassist John Entwistle said “ Well, on his breaks, for instance, (Moon) wouldn’t go around the toms like someone normally would. He didn’t play from left to right or right to left, he played forwards. It’s hard to explain. He went from the snare to the toms a lot, and he’d always start his breaks with his left hand instead of his right, which was sort of strange. When you see him playing mad breaks, he’s not going around the kit, he’s going forward: His arms are moving forward from the snare to the toms. ”

When I was in college in the 80s, and had access to the music Usenet group, someone posed this question: who is the true musician - a classical player who can read anything but can’t improvise, or a punker who’s all feel but can’t read?

There is a place for Karen, John, and Keith in Drummers Heaven. Just please don’t ask Moonie or Bonzo to play a Carpenters song, or Karen to play Bargain or Achilles Last Stand.
