Abortionist Experienced Nightmares, Says One Dream Had a Baby “Trying to Hold on to the Walls of a Uterus”

New York City abortionist Dr. William Rashbaum performed over 20,000 abortions in his lifetime. In one article, the magazine Mother Jones called him “one of the pre-eminent and longest-practicing providers of second-trimester abortions in the United States.”

He died in early May of 2005, at the age of 78. He continued performing abortions up until the last years of his life, and his career as an abortion provider lasted over 30 years.

He did them late-term, through the second trimester, aborting babies that were fully developed, with arms and legs, fingers and toes, and faces which could show human expressions. Many of the babies he aborted were old enough to feel pain.

He promoted abortion in articles and interviews that he gave throughout his life. But in one unguarded moment, he admitted to a reporter that, deep down, he was troubled by the very procedures that he had dedicated his life to performing.

In an article entitled “Cruel to be kind: In the twilight of his career, a late-term-abortion doctor tells all,” in the Boston Phoenix writer Rebecca Paley describes how Rashbaum began performing abortions right after Roe v. Wade. His father, who was an OB/GYN, was very much against abortion.

“In the beginning, Rashbaum had problems performing abortions. First, there were his father’s objections. ‘Growing up, the worst thing my dad could say about another doctor was he did abortions,’ he says. ….although Rashbaum felt he was performing a necessary service, it weighed heavily on his conscience. He was troubled by a recurring dream of a fetus trying to hold onto the walls of a uterus by its tiny fingernails. Raised to believe that abortion was wrong, he reasons, ‘What kind of dreams do you think you are going to have?’”

Although he wrote off his recurring nightmare as a product of his upbringing, it is clear that, deep down, he knew that abortion was not simply a procedure that, as Planned Parenthood puts it “gently empties your uterus” but was in fact killing a developing human being. Sadly, he never allowed his nightmares to influence him. He never stopped performing abortions until his failing health forced him to do so.

Whether he continued to suffer the nightmares for years or whether they faded once he was able to harden his conscience is not clear to me in the article. What is clear, however, is that he did not allow his dreams to influence him. He ignored his conscience, and continue performing abortions. Yet we see that even the most dedicated abortion provider can show some ambivalence but when faced every day with a horror of tearing apart developing unborn humans.

God was warning him. Now he will be haunted by that dream for eternity.

I can envision why he did. What does that make me? I believe Jesus said something like “better to tie a heavy millstone around your kneck and cast yourself into the sea than to harm one of those most innocent to me”. Sometimes I think of the Catholic Church and I said that to my Mother one time who like her husband were very devout. The depravity, evilness, wrongness against Mankind these priests must have not to learned about in Divinity School. My mother and father had nothening to say. And I did it all Altar Boy, (used to sip a little wine after Mass), Lecturn, Usher. Didn’t greet, always thought you were here now on your own accord.

He let his love of money overrule his concerns.

It was either not in the contract or Satan must not have explained those nagging details. Satan does stuff like that. Satan has been defeated, but doesn’t want you to know.

I know a man who worked in a slaughterhouse producing pork for Bob Evans. He struggled with nightmares for years and finally moved on to other work. I can’t imagine being exposed to death all day, everyday must be like. If pigs can cause that kind of psychological impact imagine what killing baby humans can do to a person.

My first job...50+ years ago...at the hospital where I worked for 25 years was in the Pathology Department. Not long after I arrived there I had to go into the autopsy room for something. It was only my second visit to that room (the first one having been very traumatic for me). During that second visit I looked for a minute or so at the many vessels,of various sizes,in the room. These vessels contained various organs...hearts,lungs and livers in large containers on the floor and smaller ones (eyes, for example) in smaller containers on shelves.

One smaller jar caught my eye.It was clear glass, the size of a large pickle jar and it contained four or five fetuses in a clear liquid (formalin I assume). This was before Roe v Wade so I assume these were miscarriages.

The fetuses were about the size of my thumb and they were all *perfectly* formed. They couldn't be mistaken for anything but tiny little human beings. I vividly remember noticing that one of them needed his/her fingernails clipped.

It's an image that will stay with me until the day I die.

Unless I'm very much mistaken abortionists don't fare well with Saint Peter.

He’ll be living that nightmare for eternity as he burns in hell for the mass slaughter of innocents he has done as he hardened his heart the whole while God was trying to reach him.

Reminds me of the show, Celebrity Ghost Stories. One segment featured comedian Lewis Black. He recounted the time as a young man, he was hired to help build a new cabin in the woods of Michigan. He was given a cabin nearby to stay in during the course of the job.

At night he would hear these strange crying noises of babies inside the cabin. At first he thought it was wild animals outside the cabin. But he eventually realized it was coming from within the walls of his cabin. Night after night he’d hear the sounds of these crying babies coming from the walls.

Then, one day during a lunch break, one of his co-workers filled him in on the history of the cabin Lewis was staying in. It was once owned by the town veterinarian. This veterinarian would use the cabin as his place to perform illegal abortions for a fee.

After being told about the history of the cabin, Lewis never heard the sounds of the crying babies inside his cabin ever again. He figures the ghosts of those aborted babies just wanted him to know what went on on there.

Unless pro-life America can take over the narrative, the pro-aborts win — and our children lose.

If that recurring nightmare didn’t make him stop, then I don’t even know what to say. Many opportunities for him to correct his wicked ways, but apparently he never did.

All that money he made murdering people, I guess he figures it wasn’t worth it now that he’s where he is.

If you’re a Catholic you understand that comment. If you’re anything else, you might not. Among Catholics...at least the older and more traditional ones...there’s a saying that God appointed Saint Peter to guard the Gates of Heaven.
