yes, public education has failed miserably in many areas, but another reason black kids do little is because their culture lionizes sticking it to the powers that be...a black kid who studies will be denounced by many of his comrades, and will be in fear for his physical safety...

Yes, indeed. The black kid who scores a touchdown is a hero. The black kid who gets 100% on an algebra test is a turncoat. This will be very difficult to fix.
A good start would be for black leaders to step up and talk about this. But any black leader who did so would be called, well, a turncoat.
I was not happy to see Obama win in 2008. But I thought at least now there’d be a black leader who could address this issue on a national level. I was wrong. Obama made things worse.

Based on merit a “disproportionate” number of blacks won’t succeed because a disproportionate number of blacks have not gotten off of the Federal and big city Welfare and crime Government plantations. Some do escape it or were never trapped in it and they are economically indistinguishable from other middle and upper class Americans.
