Betcha some of that money let the student live large and big for a while.
Anyone who took out $153K for a college education should be able to easily understand the actions needed. Obviously, there wasn’t a college level education involved.
That would be my guess.
Ticklish denial but without it things can get much worse than to deny financial assistance in the form of a loan or cosigning with a family member. Unless I am willing to take the debt myself and because I need to take the debt I won’t. I don’t even borrow money for myself. If I can’t save and afford something I do without it and have for the last nearly 60 years of adulthood. Before that I was a child and didn’t borrow either. If I will not take on debt for myself I will not take it on for anyone else. If a family member is in dire straights that is a different matter and I will give them the money they need to move on. I will not do the same for anyone else.
If she's serious, she needs to move to a small town. Go to church. There's still a lot of decent young men from wonderful families who want to get married.
I gave up 4 years of my life after college for a 3 year ROTC Scholarship, best deal I ever made.
Still reaping the rewards almost 50 years later.
Those ROTC scholarships were great. I didn’t do it, but some of the best officers I have ever worked with came out of the ROTC programs.
For that much debt, I hope it was a professional degree in some remunerative field. If not, the father may end up renting for life.
But there's no talking to many young people. Some people of my acquaintance -- the ex-husband sold his business and gifted his two young adult children (who were living rather lavishly with mom and stepdad) with approximately $175K apiece. One of them used the money for clothes and plastic surgery -- boobs, lips, butt, liposuction, etc — and no college education. Then married a bozo who will never earn money like Dad to match how she was raised. Mind-boggling. I hope the bozo likes how she now looks, because all the parents are appalled.
Stipulations, people. Stipulations, and a trustee.
I thought Obama made all loans federal. Where was the paperwork signed? In the old days, if it was at the bank, it was private; if it was at the school, it was federal.
I gave up 8 years of my life for the GI Bill which put me through the North Avenue Trade School. Best deal I ever made.
In the old days, yes, it was one year at a time. The student has to stay in school to be eligible for next year’s loan.
The reporter may have made a long story short.
