Make it his most prized possession, that he has been carrying for three years since leaving his mountain village home in Sicily (he smells at it every night before sleeping and it takes him back home...). (Add some flashback scenes of him running barefoot through the lemon orchard as a child while black-dressed old women silently gather fallen fruits...)
