Legally Binding or Not?

Is an oath to tell the truth as a witness in a trial not essentially the same? I think what matters is who is there to hold oath breakers accountable?

It seems like laws related to perjury would come into play, but DANG. Slick Willie and all that.

Witness stand oath is really just a formality. Lying on the stand is perjury. Actually doesn’t matter if you took the oath, it’s still perjury. In practice that oath is really just a person saying “yes I know there could be consequences”.
