We’ve had such a WARM ‘winter’ up here in SW Wisconsin that my Magnolia is fully budded out and looks like it wants to bloom. Our Maple trees are all leafed out! I have chives coming up as well as tulips, daffs and strawberries, though all are still under cover and will stay that way until the time really IS right for them to bloom. Ugh!
Everything is about a MONTH ahead of itself this season, which is going to turn UGLY once we get the remaining 20” of SNOW come the middle of this month - or beyond.
Last year we had a BIG snowfall in early April. The Robins were not happy about that. ;)
Your maple trees have leafed out already? Wow. That is nuts. Still looks like winter here in central Indiana, with spring bulbs poking up through the soil.
I’ve always wondered how you did a weekly garden thread. It’s been a lot of fun, and very much great conversation. Appreciate that you’ve done that for so long. Thank you!
I just took a gander at my herbs that I left in the ground over the winter. The Greek oregano is coming up like gangbusters. The chives are poking up, and three of the four French tarragon plants are sprouting baby leaves. I’ll need to keep those protected for a bit more, but they look promising! Spring is coming!!
Today is a pretty day again. I’ll take every partially sunny day I can get. I have seasonal affective disorder, but this year I took extra vitamin D, and it has been a better winter most days. Of course, the mild winter has helped some, but it’s not the temps that get to me so much; it’s the lack of sunshine. I try to have a sunny disposition every day, and gray clouds get in the way of that.
My tulips are starting to come up and the peonies are poking through. With the beautiful weather today I was motivated to clean up the yard. We’re having an early spring here in Wisconsin but as you say, we are likely not done with wintry weather. Guess the ground hog was right this year. Will start my tomatoes and peppers in a week or two. Going to try bucket potatoes this year.
